No not that one....I am talking about IL-2 Sturmovik.
Fluffy as in AH but casting shadows too. The trained eye will notice the 3D forest too (changing perspective. There are other shots where it is more noticable)
More of the new shots can be found at http://209.198.154.16/il2-e/products/screenshots.asp?id= (http://209.198.154.16/il2-e/products/screenshots.asp?id=)

Thanks Snef (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

GIMME! GIMME DAMMIT I WANT NOW DADDY I WANT AN OOMPALOOMPA DADDY!!! oh Im sorry...I mean...nice screenshots.......I better lie down....and change pants...
-
My god - that's the best erhm... 'environment' I have seen in any sim. What a difference those shadows make - I never woulda guessed it. And finally a 3-D ground terrain.... makes ditching an issue. Jaw dropping screenshot that one.
-
The one I saw of the plane exploding (at dogfighter.com) was amazing. Flaming parts shooting off in various direction. I've never bought a boxed sim. But this might be my first.
Maybe I am a eyecandy guy after all (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
Best part is its gonna have mp.
Maybe Hasbro rushed B-17 II out because they knew they better get some money out of it before Il-2 comes to markets (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
hey snef,
i've been following IL2 also...can't wait till it comes out!! i'm curious as to how it will compare with our AH ? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
Damn I haven't had my new computer for even a year yet and allready these games are making it obsolete (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
-
TY LLv34_ for the link . There's been talk about this coming sim on our forum too . I took the time to check out the screen shots and am impressed to say the least .
At least this seems to be for real , never planed on buying B17 2 , or at least till the second patch .
Anyway , thanks again for the updated info .
cheers spro

I'm still waiting for that sim where you can fly at treetop level.. then dip between trees if need be.
The cloud effects are great.. but I'd have to see the trees up close to get excited. It seems they are just another well painted skin from this perspective.

minimum specs of a P3-600 128mb RAM, and a 32mb video card, reports of running well on a 1Ghz or faster machine. Time to start rolling up them pennies (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
Min spec is PII 300, 64 MB RAM and a 3D Accelerator. The 600 one is the recommended.
Oleg have posted some screenshots of lowest detail level and that still looked very good.
As for the trees Hornit, who is so lucky having a pre-evaluation version of the game, showed some closer looks of the trees. His build-version is several months old (he doesn't have the new clouds for instance), but they still look great. This pic he took while in Mission-edit mode I think, hence the numbers and the weird "flag".
Notice how you on the front trees can see between them and the ground below, but further out the ground disappear.
He assures that during flight they look even better, and gives no slowing of graphics.

WOW!
I hope those levers and buttons are clickable. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Makes me glad I've joined Leonid's Il-2 VVS squad. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Multiplayer will rock.
-
I think the cockpits will NOT be clickable, you will control all from your keyboard I think. The handles, throttle, stick etc will move tho along with different cockpit lights (fuel warning for instance)
Oleg stated the reason for this was that since it is too cumbersome to use in dogfights it wouldn't pay off using time programming it.
Anyone who have tried the fighters in B17-2 (very nice cockpits in those too btw) will know how irritating it is to HAVE to use clickable cockpit in flight.
For instance dropping tank. You got a button on keyboard for this, but no key to change fuel tanks. You need to press Ctrl+P to go to pan views, scroll down to cockpit, find the fuel tank selector knob, click it with mouse and press ctrl+p twice to get back to snap views.
Not that practical when you just have spotted the enemy and need to get rid of DT fast and start manouvering.

IL2 will simply RULE the sim market.
only thing making me little worried is the
GREAT east-front scenario. we all know, that the USA is a huge market for sims. but most
us-simmers only want their f.. p51's (sorry).
but, there are NO ponies. so, to all us-simmers, would you fly above the east-front??
oleg maddox is doing an outstanding job. he holds the contact to his "il2" community very
close. asking him question via email are
really fast answered.
hope IL2 in not flopping in sale numbers.
we all know, sims are on their way down. everywhere we can only see this dammed shooters and C&C clones.
pls buy IL2..and do not copy it. think of our
sim future!

With all due respect, have you purchased CFS2? and if not, is it because it has no German iron in it? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I for one am (and have been for a year) looking forward to flying the Eastern Front War in IL-2. As it is now, you can find me flying H2H over Finland or the Russian front. My appreciation for the Me-109 has really grown lately and fighting against Yaks or LA-5s. The fact that there will be missing a bunch of the "classic" warbirds in an eastern war sim might very well be one of the big reasons it has taken so long before we finally will see one. Other factor might be hard accessible data, but with archives opened this is not so big aproblem anymore (for russian speakers (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)).
And it is a fact that some people won't buy it because of no Mustang or Lightning. Found some statements no more than a week old:
"Yeah but i am not going to buy that game becase I am not really interested in Russin Fighters but the graphics are nice."
"hm Fly Russian planes, Fly a few German planes, but no Spit or Temp in the game. Ok Graphics look great but I hate Russian planes and I hate German planes(to fly instead). So my Vote is NO"
Last one is actually a German guy I think.
But having said all that I think that IL-2 WILL make it. For every of above comments I have seen at least a dozen(americans) saying that they have already preordered it.

If the game delivers on its promised and displayed quality and features. People will buy it. If they are Mustang fans they will clamour for a Mustang friendly theater(or add them to the existing theater)
Obviolsy the GPW has to be covered and some light shone on that largest of tactical air battles. But Oleg is extremely unlikly to walk away from a western version of this game.
There is certainly no other boxed game out there that can even take a nip out of a AH addiction. Although Airfix Dogfighter is not bad.

Im American, and im not that picky. If it has a prop and the guns work, im there.

it was "aces of the pacific".
i LOVED the corsair and bearcat there :-).
(..err what i said???..dammed outted me :-)
btw, thinking of b17-2. b17 (1) was very nice. found the navigation one of the finest
things in the game. but my version was extremely buggy. mentioned in manual (me262, me109,me163) but only thing a ever saw was me110 and fw190. and i think, i NEVER had escorts.
i thought of the lack of us players, because
in the il2 forums, mostly european are found.
hope it all ok again rip?

Hehe, Sebastian, I knew what you meant, just ribbing ya alittle (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)...There are Pony heads, then there are us who love them all (that accounts for about 80% of the flight simmers that enjoy WW2 I would venture to guess)
-
I wouldn't worry about the US market making or breaking Il-2. The game will be available in Europe as well. A good European market could keep this game alive without too much trouble. Having said that, I do think Il-2 will make out very well in the USA. If you've ever tried FA2, you'll note that one of the biggest player nations there is SU - Soviet Union. My guess is the younger American crowd feels quite different from the older American crowd, so to speak.
Am really stoked about the VVS planes that will initially be available, because 5 GIAP used both the MiG-3 and LaGG-3 before their transition to the La-5. And from what I heard the La-5FN will be added-on fairly soon after initial release! The one 'stretch' of realism that 5 GIAP will have to make is flying the P-39, but I've always loved that 37mm (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Are you gonna fly the I-16 too when it becomes flyable? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Snefens,
It doesn't take higher alt to beat a 109 - heh heh heh(invoking bragging right) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Sure, we'll fly the Ishak too. I just don't know when Oleg will add it on, but I really want to fly it. It was such a maeuverable plane, and climbed better than a 109E at low alt (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Oh, BTW, did you know I-16 had two drop tanks?!?

I-16... hmmm
2xI-16 + TB-3 = SPB "Zveno" (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I think Il-2 should be able to do this, if they can have the He 111Z towing a Gigant.

Hmmm actually the eastern front had a lot of figters from all over the world gathered in the sovjet wars against both Finland and Germany.
USSR received a huge amount of lendlease planes from the West:
Hurricanes, Spitfires, P38s, P39s, P40s and P51s. All these planes except the P51 were received in very high numbers.
Its only natural that Oleg wants to model the russian designed planes first, but it could have been a wise move to model some of the western planes too.

I just hope ti has a flying "feel" to it, as simple as it sounds that is a thing very few engines can replicate, I cannot explain it relly but anyone that has played Janes WW2 fighters knows what i am talking about.
-
I tried dust some numbers of lend-lease planes up. Found the following numbers. They might be a little off:
Hurricane Mk II ~ 2900
Spitfire Mk V ~ 140
Spitfire Mk IX ~ 1200
P-38, only few for trials.
P-39 (N and Q) ~ 4900
P-40 ~ 2400
P-47 ~ 200
P-51, only few for trials.
Hurricane was pretty much considered obsolete almost at arrival. The spits primary being used for Air-Defence of Moscow, not much at the front where the game mostly takes place.
They already got three versions of the P39 in the game, but if you are to look at the historic use of the planes I would almost say that the P-40 is a more correct choice for next plane.
This can off course be overruled by the increased interest the game would get if the Spitfires where to be included instead.
-
Which front is it? Is Finland involved?

<edit> this post is entirely different from my first as I misunderstood the question. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
The game takes place on several maps of about 300x200km. Those are:
Kursk
Smolensk
Cuban
Crimea
Berlin
Balaton (lake by Budapest)
Lvov
Moscow
Stalingrad
Screenshots were posted of the maps. I'll see if I can find them.
Ok, I found them. http://www.dogfighter.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000224.html (http://www.dogfighter.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000224.html)
We are working on also getting a Karelian map into the sim.

Snefens,
Why would you say P-40 is a "more correct choice for the game?" P-40 was used mainly on the Karelian front whereas the P-39 saw combat throughout the Russian front. Also, just take a look at the Soviet aces, and you'll see just how well they used the P-39.
BTW, many Soviet P-40s were modified by using the Klimov engine, rather than the Allison.

I see that I didn't put that in the most clear way.
What I meant is that since we already have 3 versions of the P-39 by the release of the game the next plane to add besides those, looking at historic usage together with what type of battle will be most common in the game the P-40 would be more correct to add over the spitfire.
I had dug up some old dogfighter posts on lend lease, when I replied to what I thought was GB's question. Still some nice read there on Lend-Lease (mostly P-40)
