Wouldn't it need to hit the war head or propellent to destroy the weapon?  i'm no expert on laser beams but it seems like they would just pass right through the missile's shell.  Sounds like an awesome idea at any rate.

a missle has alot of propellent in it that's combustable.  THe other thing that's suseptable is the guidance electronics.  Remove the brain and the missle is now dumb.  All a laser really needs to do is effect the aerodynamics even slightly in some cases and the thing would topple out of control.
