Title: Skippers and the Krabby Patty
Post by: Chairboy on August 25, 2005, 09:50:11 AM
Skippers is a seafood chain in the northwest, with restaurants in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and so on.  Good fried fish stuff, and good prices.  None of this 'McGraths: Easy Loan Payments Available!' stuff.

Recently, Skippers introduced 'Krab Kakes', a fast food style crab cake that tastes most excellent.  They pop these guys into the deep fryer, and they come out all juicy and spicy.

While mowing through an order of these the other day, I began contemplating the obvious cross-over possibilities with SpongeBob SquarePants.

First of all, I know it's a kids show, and I didn't start watching it until my three year old brought it into our house.  Now, my wife and I watch it occasionally on our own because it's just a great, funny show.

In the series, the protagonist works for a fast food place that makes 'Krabby Pattys' which look like hamburgers.  The secret recipe is something that Plankton (Ripsnort's avatar) is always trying to swipe so his 'Chum Bucket' restaurant can put 'The Krusty Krab' out of business.  They've never mentioned what goes in the patty, though I imagine it's probably not its namesake (since the owner of the restaurant is a Crab himself) unless his contributions are more sinister...  anyhow....

While inhaling these Krab Kakes at Skippers, I reflected on how good a burger/sandwich would taste with a bigger version of the special crab cake as the patty.  I think the world is ready for some tasty seafood innovation, but in their current form it's difficult to cram a bunch of the bite size krab kakes onto a bun to try it out.

If you like Crab Cakes (but don't live next to Neptune's Net north of Malibu) or have a Skippers nearby, try these things out.  They taste great, and I think there's a real possibility for a new sandwich here.

Why am I posting this to the O'Club?  Because I'm at that half-way state between sleep, wakefulness, and mania as a result of a too-sugary coffee I just drank that doesn't seem to be taking hold of my fatigue addled brain.  In fact, I'm pretty sure Clippy is writing most of this for me right now ("It looks like you're writing a semi-coherent rant slash product endorsement, would you like me to" etc).

Anyways, Krab Kakes good.  SpongeBob Funny.

need more coffee....

If it's spelled with a K it's usually fake crab.

It might be fake crab, but it's real delicious.

Large crab cake, sourdough roll, & a red pepper sauce. I cut the roll in half, spread on garlic butter, & toast it. Last time I made it the cake was too squishy and half of it fell out of the roll. It was still really good though.

If by good, you mean not bad, then I guess so...but I think mediocre would be a better word.  The food is on par with what you'll find in a bag in your local grocer's freezer section.  For those to the east of us, think Long John Silver's.
