Isnt Aluminum Phosphate the stuff they put in anti-perspirant to block up your pores and keep you from sweating?
-
Hey Vulcan, I've allways wondered this since i was a kid reading footrot flats comics.
How do you prepare the whitebait? does it tatste anything like sardines?
Do you gut them and remove the heads or is it a whole of the fish type thing?
Do you cook 'em? or is it like sushi?.
For once, I am not in any way taking the piss outta NZ or Kiwis, I'm genuinely curious :)
Ta,

I just had a dinner that was pretty kick ass. Got a smoked tri-tip from a local market. Sliced it thin and ate it on a fresh french roll. Dipped it in the juice mixed with a little Stubb's BBQ sauce.

Man that package contained more semi-toxic or plain toxic additives than most industrial sewages.
It also has vitamine additives which again are not good for you unless you live with UN gruel in ethiopia.

Whole thing in a fritter is the most popular way. The don't taste like any fish you've ever tasted, hell they don't taste like fish (theres no fishy smell either). When they're cooked they turn a very solid white colour. The also leave a really nice aftertaste (especially when you burp) for quite a while. They're very soft (ie no crunchy bits).
Only thing to watch out for is Chinese Whitebait, that stuff is tasteless/fishy.
Only problem is NZ Whitebait is so expensive, ~ US$15 per 100 grams. If you have a contract down the South Island sometimes you can get it cheap, but its in such high demand its hard sometimes.

Oh yeah. I recently headed down to Cali with a few friends. We stopped at our on-the-way-to-Cali breakfast spot in Medford, OR. The name? Restaurant. I had biscuits and gravy and hash browns at Restaurant. It was heart-clogging yummy.
-edit- Oh, and depending on which direction you're driving, it's also "Truck St" or "Truck p".

Looks like something the cows left on the ground in the lower 40.
I know what it is. It just looks like dried cow crap. Tried it a few times, hated it. I'll stick to distilled grains or fermented hops, rice, and barley.

"Food of the Gods" is also dependant on attitude, beverage, and setting...for example...
Sitting in a pierside seafood joint on a warm summers day. The ceiling fans are humming, the breeze floats through the open sides of the room.
Beer so cold its almost frozen...something ordinary, not fancy. Corona's work well.
Fresh, caught this morning clams on the half shell on a bed of ice, just a touch of Lousiana Hot. Suck em down and chase with the beer!
Spend a few hours...eat till your lips tingle :)
