I've never been able to hit with a rocket.  What's the trick?

I remember back in AH1, FBWar and I were sparring.  He kept bringing 262's, and I grabbed a Hellcat.  Upon getting within Icon range, I dumped the bombs.  He turned in front of me, I nailed his *** with rockets.   Both of us were crying of laughter.
