I wonder how many of you answer trivia questions off the
top of your head and how many run to google or your reference
library?
Try to use your head on this one first.
What was the model number of the prototype B-17 and what
happened to it during flight testing?
Oh yeah, and no I don't want to see it in the main arena:lol
-
prototype was the YB-17. it crashed.
-
model 299?
-
Yep, Model 299 and it crashed during flight testing because
the pilot did a cruddy preflight and tried taking off with the
control locks still in.
Aren't you realism guys glad we don't model stuff like that :lol
-
So.. you are flying a prototype aircraft and you do a half arsed preflight.
Darwinism in action.

The Model 299 was not the only a/c that had a 1/2 arsed pre-flight. During the seventh flight of the NA-73 it ran out of gas.

To answer the original question: I guessed model 299 and YB-17, seems to be correct. I knew it crashed. From the top of my head. And I'm way average in this kind of trivia, at least on these boards.
Ok, here's are a few easy ones from the top of my confused head, don't google:
What were Grumman F4F's called in British service?
What was the official designation for the Japanese aircraft which name translates as 'dragon slayer'?
What was the intended purpose of the Heinkel He-111Z Zwilling?
What was remarkable about the powerplants of the Ju-86P?
Name the Russian aircraft which nickname roughly translates into 'Varnished coffin'?
