yep, they tested it as a possibility of using it as a non lethal weapon to disable troops.

Hofmann continued his quiet work into the psychoactive properties of both LSD and other hallucinogens, such as magic mushrooms, in Basel while the drug itself – his so-called “problem child” – escaped the confines of the laboratory. A small band of writers were attracted to LSD as a way of unlocking the secrets of the mind: Aldous Huxley’s Doors of Perception (1954) is probably the most famous creative work to stem from experiments with mescalin, an LSD derivative. Underground tests on volunteers by the British and American military were so dramatic that subsequent top secret reports suggested that if LSD could be deployed in a missile fired at the Soviet Union, it could at a stroke put the entire Red Army out of action.

When U go to chem warfare training they teach you that there are some chemicals used that do infact cause euphoria.  It's non-leathal way to pacify OPFOR.  who wants to fight when they are high?

Misnomer.  It's popular in third world countries to go fighting when you're coked out of your ****in mind.

Possibly, but there's certainly a difference between KNOWING that you're coked out (because you chose to do it) versus having it just 'happen'.

It is African tradition to do it.  They get coked out because they believe it to make them better warriors.

In truth, it makes them less susceptible to pain and capable of going further.

When you look at it, it does makes sense, especially PCP. A Human Wave of Shermed up soldiers is guaranteed to capture an Enemy Stronghold.

On the other hand, to be in the trenches, and then all of a sudden start trippin nuts, it would definatley render you useless as a fighter or possibly even a hazard to your comrades.

Back then all sorts of stuff went on, the nuke tests were just wrong, and IIRC the US Military tested several drugs and biologicals on civilian populations for modelling tests (ie slipped into the water). The biologicals were mainly flu's etc to measure spread for putting data into simulations.

Thats funny, cos the coca plant originates in south america.

Gunslinger, if anything, someone wanting to do a few lines before battle would have the advantage of a clear colon.

(and LSD is not a depressant)

"A Human Wave of Shermed up soldiers is guaranteed to capture an Enemy Stronghold."

And all very usefull, say if you are storming a fortress in Gaul with a Roman Legion in the 1st Century AD.

Not so good when they are expected to follow complicated tactical plans and coordinated actions in a modern army. "Fixing bayonets and screaming kill kill kill" was rendered obsolete by the water cooled maxim MG.
