Title: Anyone else miss those yells and screams
Post by: tactic on August 29, 2005, 01:45:57 PM
I kinda miss the drunks yelling "geromino" as you pushed their arses out the door   lmao!  :)  and (pretty sure it was aw)   in AW when your gunner  or you would bail that SCReam  they'd let out aahhhgghhhhhhhhhhhh!   as they fell to earth.  funny stuff

Bring them back,   Maybe have their words change for each paratrooper or each drop would be funny too.    Like the first guy says..... oh my goddddddddddddd!  2nd guy....  holy chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii   3rd guy...  I'm not gooooooooooiiinnnnggggggggg.  4th guy..  mommyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!   5th guy..... too far dowwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnn!   6th guy...  forgot my chuttttttttttttttttttte!  7th guy.  I'll kill them alllllllllllllllllll!    and so on  :p

Have 2 or 3 or more different statements per load  Sure would  add some flavor to goon driving.  Would make it interesting to see what they were gunna yell each drop.  Even rotate the yells per map?  something!

I'm sure these guys could come up with several yells to contribute .

Now No fighting to see who drives the goon or m3.  :)

The best sound in AirWarrior was if you failed to open your chute--you got a hilarious juicy SQUISH sound once you hit the ground.

The in-game sounds have been something of a traditional weakness of AH, particularly the engine sounds.

You know this is something I had forgotten about.  I do remember the drunks yelling, but not now.  I agree with Tactic.  It would make it more fun to hear the comments coming from the troops as they drop.  You could also have a different set for the troops going from an M3/Lvt2.  Like the sgt yelling "Ya wanta live forever?!"  Also, how bout having a voice in the goon saying "All troops away" when the last one jumps?

I have flown when guys are going to jump and been a jumper.  You would never believe some of the things I've heard some say.  Even a few that could be used in the game.  lol

As for other sounds, I think the town would be quiet when it is completely down, with no siren going off.  And on a base, when the siren first starts, "Red alert" or something like that.  On the CV: "Man your battle stations"

Sounds play a big part in a game, as with anything.  Make the sounds interesting and it helps the game.

I can't recall off hand which soundpack had it, but there were several options for screaming paratroopers. Also, if you play around with your sounds folder, you can have separate sounds for the same things. By that I mean, different bomb release and impact sounds for fighters and bombers (Waffle has some explosions for bombers that I love), different rocket sounds, etc. I spent hours one night when my isp was down just playing around with sounds, mixing and matching, etc.

If I remember correctly, the default sounds are low quality and fewer in number to keep the download size tolerable.  My sounds folder alone (using stuff from Mitsu, Fruda, Waffle, and others I've borrowed from various games I own) is around 90mb, and that's after I pared it down.

I strongly urge everyone to obtain all of the player developed sounds, and even experiment with your own.

edit: the paratroop sound is 'drop.wav'. The parachute sound when you bail is just the chute opening, and is 'chute.wav'. You could use sound recorder and your mic to alter either, and then you get to listen to your own panicked cries. ;)

Thanks Hub.  Hey if you don't mind, I'd love to have a copy of all the sounds you have.  I'll also start looking around for stuff I have.  I must admit, I know more about the hardware in a computer than the programming, etc.  I always thought programing was a bucket of worms and just never thought I'd really need to know what was what in them.  Sad to say, I'm finding my short-sightedness to be my downfall, and my glasses aren't fixing the problem. lol :D

The one sound that always cracked me up in AW was when in a GV and you ran over a sheep "ba,a,a,a,a,a,a"

I was messing around with AW3 and I dont know how I did it, but I bailed out and as soon as I did I heard a baby crying. Guess it meant I was a sissy or something

From the subject line, I was thinking this thread was about my ex-wife ;)

I just dropped some goons.  They all yelled Geronimo on the way down.
