Yeah Maniac - I live in San Francisco and my parents worked at Alameda Naval Air Station for 15 years before they closed it -

It is a small island in the bay and since the base closed there is a lot less going on there - alamedam nas used to be a major naval base with aircraft carriers like the enterprise and the carl vinson and others and a lot of jet activity all the time.

It is pretty nice though and one of the last affordable places in the the bay area - it is a lot less 'navy-like' these days (less hookers fighting bars etc)what do you want to know - like weather or layout or something?

Reason i asked is because there is an slim possibility that i am gonna end up working there  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

My mothers sister (aunt?) works for an quite big american company in their Swedish office here in Stockholm, and they djust got 3 openings in Computer support/Administration in Alameda and all three jobs suits me perfect.

Its very far from this being set in stone yet but you always can hope cant you  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Hows the weather there? can you get apartments there?

The weather is very nice.  No snow, ever.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
And because you are on the Bay the summer temperatures are not too hot.

Also the best Football and Baseball teams in the history of sports are located in nearby Oakland.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I don't know the housing situation on the island itself, but it is so close to Oakland and SF that there are many nearby communities you could live in.

I have a couple friends who are living there now, or have lived there recently.  I don't think they were too thrilled with it, but then again they were living on a students income so they couldn't exactly afford the choicest housing.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)  All of us bay area people should get together over drinks sometime.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Well from what i understand the housing on Alameda itself is quite expensive.. So i guess i will end up somewhere outside Alameda if this thing comes trough (if the company dont set me up that is)

Dunno what an network administrator/technishian earns in the states tough..

its not too expensive maniac - my friend rents a decent one bedroom right on the bay (literally across the street) for less than $1,000.00 per month. I cant rememeber exactly but i think its around $850.00 - $900.00 which is cheap for this area. You can get less expensive in oakland but you might want to get a firearm if you live there because the city is pretty dodgy. There is very little in san francisco right now in the way of housing - it took me 4 months of looking to get the place i am in now and that was years ago - people were actually bidding for some of the places i looked at - cash in had trying to bribe the landlord - if you go to an apartment finder they will charge you to compete with only 15 people instead of 75 for an apartment - others are better at placing you but you have to meet insane requirements - 1 place requires 36 times the rent in liquid assets before they will help you - looking in the paper is a fantasy - it is riddiculous but alameda is still ok. besidie there are a lot of places near alameda that you could drive in from - pinole is nice or even vallejo isnt too far if you have a car. cities like richmond, san pablo, emeryville and san lorenzo still have some afforable housing -

it is almost always kinda foggy and dreary in the area, though the alameda side gets more sun than the s.f. side - everything is ridiculously priced and the traffic is miserable and there is constant ruthless competition for jobs, parking spaces apartments, coffee - you name it...other than that it's great!

good idea-r there soulyss - sounds like a plan wonder how many are in this area?

Yes, Maniac, a move to Alameda would be educational, but there are many drawbacks from living in Stockholm.  First of all, the women are not too bad looking, but they are outright ugly compared to Swedish women.  Of course, nothing compares to Stockholm women.  So, bring a sack to put over the east bay woman's head during sex.

The other guy was right, you need a firearm for sure.  Don't tell anyone about your handgun, however, because the whole bay area is ripe with Gore supporters and they don't like guns.  You will be ostrasized for having a firearm.  But, when a huge porch monkey tries to take your wallet, you will be glad you have your trusty Glock.  If he gets your wallet, and even if he injures you in the process....you will be told that it isn't his fault since he is a product of his environment.  If you can find a local ashram, you may be able to take your case directly to Jerry Brown.  He will be in there chanting his mantra.

You might try going into the city and getting a woman over there.  It is easier since most of the males in the city are outright rump-rangers.  Just be careful what bar you go into, because they will try to bugle you.  A Glock could be handy in that situation as well since some of those pickle smokers can bench press 400 lbs.

As far as living arragnements, I recommend finding a bull dyke Oakland police officer and rent a small room or a couch from her.  She and her femme may even let you watch once in a while....which will be very entertaining...sort of like watching two rhinos go at it.  Afterwards you can all take Bart to the Stick and watch a game.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

LOL Vega!!!

But why would anybody want to go to the Stick?  All the good sports teams play at the Oakland Coliseum.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I live in texas and i would just like to squeak a sec.

I hate how it gets to be over 100 degrees every day for weeks on end, then when winter gets here it gets just cold enough to piss you off and yet ya dont get any pretty snow,  BARF and its a flat as hell to no mountins or even hills *victoria* Waking up in texas is like have some sort of odd AM dry heaves every day cause the humidity is something around 112% all the time and yer bellybutton will stick to leather seats in the summer sun......AAAGGGHHH i want to move!
