Title: For your own protection...
Post by: Hangtime on September 02, 2005, 10:58:56 AM
Volunteer's are lined up, ready to go in, deliver food, water, pull out trapped refugees. Local officals are preventing them from going in.. for their own protection. The response from the volunteers..

"Hell sonny, if I wuz worried about my own ass, I'da never come down here. We know it's dangerous.. let us get in there and help..."

I can see why the officals are holding them back.. they don't wanna see all the rescuers become victims... and thus increase the depth of the disaster.

Damn.. this truly sucks.

Why another thread? Jeez.

I imagine that part of the decision is also that they don't want to introduce potential looters to the mix.  What percentage of the volunteers are actually hoping to clean out some valuables?

only the government is altruistic and moral enough to help... it is allways best to seek their help instead of your neighbors... now run along and be a good little socialist...

people helping people.... the very idea reeks of reckless freedom and dangerous individuality.

sorry skyprancer... not really good at listening to foolish drivel is all....

and it is kind of fun watching you try to justify your views.

I guess from my side of it things look different... it looks to me like you are the one having histrionics about the whole disaster...

histrionics sprinkled liberaly (pun intended) with big wet corcadile tears...  Oh the humanity!

sorry... but to me (and I am sure others) your grief does indeed seem to be at least partially motivated by your desire to put down the U.S. and it's current leaders and.... your desire to foist even more socialist views on us.

It is kind of sickening motive wise.  Like some friggin Ayn Rand novel with you as the bad guy.

People helping people is individualism and morality.

What Lazs is espousing is very similar to many elements of Libertarianism, for anyone who is interested.

..whats next.. outlaw pointy sticks, knives and slings?

You are entitled to your opinion. Just remember, there's a guy wearing a blue suit & a badge packing a gun that one day mave have to make the decison to defend his own family instead of yours.

Good luck.

Which is better...socialism or anarchy?

Just curious.  Neither apply to me.

sixpense... I don't really care what you think about it so long as you do not try to infringe on my constitutional rights... Your opinion is noted tho.

If it is important to you then I would suggest that you try to have the second amendment abolished or simply move.. there are plenty of countries governments and peoples who feel just as you do.

I don't know if I am a libertarian or not.... not a big "joiner" but... I do believe in democracy so long as there is guarentees that human rights are inalienable and not privilidges doled out by fellow citizens or government.

I believe the constitution of the U.S. is an allmost perfect document... too perfect for me to improve on.

I'm kinda wondering when it became almost perfect. Which amendment it was that put it right over the top.

Then I have to wonder... in the future, if we add an amendment, will it be more perfect?

"no... socialism is governemt extorting money from some to redistribute to others."

No, thats taxes. They dont use the word "extort" though, they prefer gentler terms. Dont pay them for awhile, then they use much clearer language.

And I would characterise people helping people as community, which rises above what form of government you happen to live under. In other words, caring for your neighbour. Thats why charities are always best left to NGOs, they do a better job than the state ever could.

I would definetly prefer to have my rifle and pistol with me in the event a great disaster were to occur in my region.  Ive seen way too many examples on the news lately why being unarmed is a really sad and pathetic condition to be in.  Might as well be dead already.

Ouch mav!!  are you saying that ted kennedy killed more people with his car than you killed with your gun?

curval has tried to pin the racist badge on me for a long time.... I may well be by his standards (most everyone would) but from what I have seen... he seems to be more so than me.

sandie... the first ten amendments made the constitution a nearly perfect document.... adding more may or may not make it more or less perfect...  I think that about all the real human rights are covered in the first ten.... not sure we needed prohibition... that was the do gooders trying to improve things by banning something... silly stuff really.   I also think that the amendments are listed in order of importance although all are important.

I certainly want nothing to do with democracy without the restraints of human rights being exempt from the tender mercies of my fellow humans and a powerful government.

these things are rights... not privilidges.   they are inate human rights... we had them before the constitution.... we had them by being born.... they need to be protected tho from those who would try to enslave us.   Make sense?

Talking about this is great, expressing your worries and so forth is healthy. But it's time for action. Money is great, but what these people immediately need is time and manpower.

Nah we can't shut off the booze to Boston or MA. or they'll start trying to go to other areas and be a pain to them. If they stay drunk and at home they are far less likely to cause real trouble.

That's quite true. Trained manpower, not a rabble of well meaning boobs getting in the way with no clear idea of what to do, how to do it or even who to report to to help out. By letting the boobs get into the way, use up the roads, fuel, water, food there is less for the folks who really need it.

curval... which part would you like explained?  the you trying to pin the racist badge on me or the you seeming to be much more so than me part?

I think everyone here sees you jumping out of the gate at every hint of racism that you percieve...  You are failing misserably... on the other hand... you seem to think some races are inferior and need to be coddled.   Worse... you seem to want seperate rules for people to live with and by based on race.

be honest and you will see what I am talking about.  I am not sure if you are a real racist but you sure seem to be.

lol...it is true I am not a graduate of the "lazs view of race relations" and that you enjoy the "support" of many on this bbs board.

If you think for one second that actually means you are right and your view of things is correct then..well, I can only LOL!

Initally when I read that you feel I am more racist than you I figured you were about to deliver a "traitor to my race" lecture.

That would have been cool.  Oh well.

****storm in a fishbowl, litteraly.
Rescue and protection and rebuild/etc ops should do their job, and anyone in their way be taken out of it, case closed.

The damage is done, let's move on.

curval... you really believed that I would say that you were a "traitor" to your race?

you are proving my point about how and why you fail to pin the racist badge on me.  It seems to be some sort of "trap the biggot into revealing himself" kinda deal with you...

You know...it is kinda funny.  I just did a search on the following:

lazs race

and then:

curval race

You have me beat by a mile.  Six pages to one.  Seems if the topic comes up you simply cannot resist the temptation to regale us with your weird views....over and over again.  Yet you seem to want to argue that I follow you around the board trying to pin a badge on you.  A quick glance through a few of the threads makes it clear that I am not needed at all.  You pinned on your own badge.

It's funny how some people will say we don't need labor unions because there are laws and the government will protect you. And they say in another thread that you are a fool to rely on the government to protect you. Weird.
