Great find..thanks.  Seems like alot of people knew the risk...wonder if the inhabitants knew.

They knew. I lived in the New Orleans area for over 30 years before I moved west. You always heard of the devistation that would come to New Orleans if a major hurricane hit it directly.

I don't want to hijack this, but just an observation along these lines.

We could have one of those extinction-level cosmic events any day now (or not for hundreds of thousands of years).  The cost to identify a potential asteroid of doom is not that great by GNP standards. Science has reached the point where we might be able to do something about it if caught early enough.

To some extent we are all on the second floor, watching the water rise and thinking about moving to the attic instead of being behind appropriately reengineered levees.

Yeah, they show stuff like that on discovery and the weather channel. They had computer models of what would happen, they were right in the money.

Nice article. Thanks for the reading material on the wetlands. What I find intriguing is the theory they guy states of pulling all the natural gas, oil and other items out from under the wetlands and coastal regions of Louisianna did to it. The analogy of a straw in a soft drink is pretty cool but also scary at the same time.
