Title: Ping Rate
Post by: Starke42 on September 04, 2005, 02:10:50 AM
Before going into the MA, DA ect., I used to get a ping rate of
73ms to 80 ms. Now seeing 150ms to 180ms range. I did a
internet speed test with my DSL and had 1.44M download &
240 Kbits upload, about the same as I always had. Live in the
midwest, about 70 miles from Chicago. Could it be a SAVIS
problem??

I really see the lag effects from what it was before to now.

Download a program called "pingplotter", (http://www.pingplotter.com) and ping the HTC servers at the times you are having issues. That will often help point out where're you're running into trouble.

Main Arena addy is 216.91.187.39, IIRC.

First guess is increased traffic in your area. I think that hop belongs to sprint, and they may just be getting loaded up at certain times. Considering your ping in that plot is under a tenth of a second, I wouldn't get too concerned, and would wait to see what happens after a few days (ie, does your ping stay up, or drop back to it's prior times, look for patterns in ping times and time of day you experience higher pings, etc). If you're still having issues in a few days, I'd probably post in the Help/Support forums.

not saying this is it but im in austin, i worked at ouor convention center most of last night and 12 hours today bringing in 7000 katrina refugees. we had a wall (probly 30 ) of pc's for them to look up family members, email and register on different websites.   we also had many other pc's putting their name into national data bases and redcross databases.  200.000 in houston(where they were supposed to get 50.000 ), and so on in dallas , san antonio and many small towns too. .  might explain some of it.

E-Mailed Sprint Tech Support about bad hop.

Their reply:

Thank you for contacting Sprint's Online Services. I do apologize for the inconvenience. Currently we are having a problem in the Mansfield Ohio area which is where that router is located. Our engineers are working on the problem but as yet they have given us no time frame for a resolution.

Thanks again Hub
