i was watching the history channel one time and I jsut remembered...CVS HAD PROXY DETONATORS! yes i know it works on aircraft but it would be great if it was for bases too. they would airburst to increase the damage radius rather than have half or more be absorbed by the ground. the flack that is from the player guns could be modeled so that it hurt ACs and fields, and also was textured differentlly.

i just remembered this topic, NO i am not punting it i am just clarifying what i said earlier...ish.
the cvs can keep the ack the way it is but have a different type of ack that damages buildings. the "ground ack" would be just the air burst explosion set off by the proxy of the shell to the ground. i forget how the proxy fuse worked but it was like radio waves emitted by the tip of the shell and received by a sensor in the nose area.

Why are you using AA when you could be using HE for ground attack?
-
airburst would still cause more damage really, because when the HE shell would hit the ground some of the blast would be muffled by the shell impacting the ground.
-
Hit the hangers instead of the ground.

who are you anayway

the shells could explode NEAR the hangar and cause more damage than impacting the ground nearby plus the airburst explosion wold cause a spread damage if it went off over that cluster of fighter and bomber hangars.

BUT! if you hit the damned hanger WITH the shell IE 8" HE shell, then NOTHING gets absorbed by the ground. EVERYTHING gets absorbed by the hanger. That's why cruisers have 3 sets of 8" triples. cause they are made to do this sort of work. 5" ack is for air only. thier explosive value is pratically nothing. they don't compare but to perhaps the 37mm of the m8 in explosiveness, yet hitting a plane with an M8 HE round will kill it in one hit.
