Title: Smokey oil tanks

The town oil tanks pop nicely. But then they just sit there with fractured polygons, looking lonely and forlorn. :(

After a while, though, they get aaaalll better. :)

But we want more!


Why not have them burn like hangars and so forth? They'd give us a time frame about popping back up, and the smoke in teh first minutes could give gv'ers something to hide in. Now that HT added the nice "Mr. Object, you've been blown up" dark circles at strats, its easy enough to see what needs to be killed there -- the same circles could be used in the towns.

It wouldnt even take extra code sonce the burning smoking stuff has already been used for field targets, CV's, etc.

THough it woudl be nice to have a little Jimmy Cagney on the roof yelling "Look ma, I'm on top of the world!!!"

i think the smoke should be much more thicker and dense

I've always found it odd when approaching a base in flames how the fire, not the smoke, shows up first.

If the smoke was bad enough, you could imagine ingame people complaining because the smoke from the refinery 2 sectors away is killing their frame rates

Then upgrade your video card! :D

Seriously, 2.05 has bumped up my FPS by 200%.  I can crank the detail and distance now and still get 60-70fps, even at a burning/busy airfield.
