Title: someone asked what NASCAR is doing this weekend
Post by: Captain Virgil Hilts on September 05, 2005, 12:00:03 PM
Yeah, it was a joke. But last night, Kyle Busch won the race in Fontana. He asked car owner Rick Hendrick to join him in donating their winnings to the Katrina relief efforts. They did.
NASCAR has stepped up as well. So has the NHRA.

At Middlesboro KY this weekend, at the annual air show they put on at the home of "Glacier Girl", donations were being collected.

At race tracks everywhere, from the professional level on down, I saw racers dipping into their winningsn and their racing budget, and giving generously.

They announced a couple of hours ago the Jerry Lewis' efforts for the Katrina relief efforts in conjunction with his annual Labor Day Telethon for MDA had already raised $3 million. They've been doing 30 second spots regularly. Even those afflicted with the various forms of MD have asked people to dig a little deeper to help the victims of Katrina as well.

I have allways found car and gun people to be good people.   One of the reasons I have stayed around both cultures for so long..
