I thought an Aussie shot down the Baron??
-
actually it is unknown.....may have been a Canadian Pilot(A. Roy Brown Captain),,,,or two Austrailians (Robert Buie Gunner//CB Popkin Gunner Sgt) or may have been a unknown firing an Enfield rifle with a "lucky " shot.
Bingo
-
Was two Canadian pilots. May and Brown. Brown was the shooter on the grassy knoll.
Plus, I'm a Calgarian too :)

Answer : No pilot was actually involved in the downing of the Red Baron - one was used as bait to lure him down into the range of Australian ground gunners. A certain myth that I saw on the History Channel says something about some Canadian pilot MAY have fired a few shots in his directions. . .
-
SKJohn - you're right, but I was looking for the pilot involved, not who shot down. ;)
TheManx got it dead on actually - two canuck pilots.
From PBS's NOVA special on the German Ace:Hermann von Richthofen, grand-nephew of the Baron and former German ambassador to NATO, reminisces about his great uncle's rise from mounted cavalry officer to master of a completely new style of warfare that pitted fast, maneuverable flying machines against each other in deadly duels in the sky. Denny May, son of novice Canadian pilot Lt. Wilfrid "Wop" May, describes his father's close brush with death when on his first combat patrol he found himself hunted by the Red Baron—a contest the lieutenant should have ignominiously lost.
Instead, it was the Baron's day to lose. As May fled at low altitude over the battlefield of northern France, with the Baron and his guns closing in, May's squadron leader Capt. Roy Brown made a quick pass at the German fighter from above and behind. A minute or two later, the Baron's aircraft pulled up and then plunged to the ground. Though he managed a rough landing, Richthofen was soon dead.
"My dad was convinced to his dying day that Roy Brown was the person that shot down the Red Baron," contends the younger May. Also convinced were British authorities, who awarded Brown official credit for the downing. But was he really the Baron's victor?
Seeing how TheManx lives in my city, and can pick it up, I'll give it to him. Email me MANX. mister_fork@hitechcreations.com.
Thanks to everyone else who asked. I'll probably find more gear around later on to give away. :)

What about me? :( was i dead wrong?:( Anyways i sent an email.
:p
But i do understand since he lives so close and less problems.
I was a little off topic because nobody really knows who got him.
"*Captain Roy Brown* Nobody can really tell because of the attack so.. Everybody got a piece ;p
He's from Canada. Another Canadian helped his name was Wilford May. He was also young! :)
One of the gunners also helped his name was Robert Buie. Robert was from Brooklyn."
Grats :(

If you quit, why do you need a HOTAS setup?
Whoever forgot to change the locks after you quit should be fired.
ack-ack

Close krull - involved. Not shot down. :)

Kev - did you ever play that game? It is, IMHO, THE best WWI game, and one of the best gameplay software games ever made. Customizable plane skins, getting invites from other aces, ace challenges. Just an awesome sim.
-
No winner yet. Hint#2 - it's something someone announced, officially. It's nothing you shoot, fire, or launch. Definately not a declearation of war, but the opposite.
-
I know what it is. :D
-
this should cover it
http://www.anzacs.net/who-killed-the-Red-Baron.htm
It is to be left to the opinion of the reader. Who killed the Red baron? that depends on which account that you find credible.
And of course whose account the judge thinks is the most credible.:aok

Yes, I use to play it on a friends PC. Its what got me into flight sims. It has been many moons since I played it tho. It was a blast, do you know of anything close to it today?
-
Kev: the only close sim I find remotely close in it's gameplay is SILENT HUNTER III. It's a sub sim, but even more advanced.
The nice part of playing Red Baron was that every country you flew for was a different game! :aok
Krull - you hit the nail on the head. I guess it's like a plane accident. Lots of factors were involved in the downing of the Red Baron, but one thing was clear, Brown and May were the catalists in his death, regardless of who fired the fatal blow.
