Title: Should I retire?
Post by: Nilsen on September 08, 2005, 11:43:04 AM
I just got a mail from Microsoft and im so excited.

" MICROSOFT MEGA JACKPOT LOTTERY PROMOTIONS,EMAIL AWARD PROMO: UNITED KINGDOM"

Apparently I just won GBP 5,500,000.00 POUNDS in their lottery.

I know I'm still rather young, but that kind of money should last us for the rest of our lives.

I'd love some advice tho. I have to call them on a phone number in the US and thats expensive. Im thinking about going to my bank and borow against the winnings so I could pay for it and some other stuff.

Im so excited.

Send me some money so I can open an account for you here, and then you can use my account to transfer the money to you when it arrives.  All I need is a simple limited banking power of attorney, a photocopy of a utility bill showing your name and address, and your account number, in addition to the check.

The bank I have to use requires $5,000 minimum to open the account due to the international transfer requirement.  It's usually $10,000 but if you get the check to me by the end of next week then you won't miss the special offer.

It will not matter whether you retire or not.
I have won the UK lottery about 20 times in the last month.
I intend to buy the world and bulldoze most of it.

Nilsen, I will send your question to the son of an ex-Nigerian dictator with whom I have entered into an incredibly lucrative (but highly secret) banking deal. He seems to know a lot about these things, and once I get my 20% cut...

But on a more serious note, does anyone, other than the very elderly and those who only just got on the internet yesterday respond to these things anymore? I don't mean the ebay, bank, paypal phishing notices (which are getting better all the time) I mean the old fashioned ham-fisted Nigerian 419 style scams.

The trick to something like that is to let it sit in the bank for at least 5 or 6 years.  Assuming taxes will take nothing off, a 5 million dollar bank account here in the US will net 150-200,000 Dollars a year off of interest alone.

We "had" a guy who was a client who disappeared shortly after getting involved in one of the scams.  His wife is certain he went to Nigeria.  He hasn't been seen since.

Dummass.

Seagoon I have wondered the same thing. I`d like to see some figures on how many fall for such obvious scams. I`d be willing to bet that we would be surprised.

Why dont we make a deal? I get in on half of your banking deal and you can half the prize i got from Microsoft? I think its smart to share the risk just incase this is fishy....I am pretty confident tho.

Im so excited.

Someone must be falling for these things or they would stop.

There are two things that are infinite in this world.  One is the galaxy, and the other is the stupidity of mankind.  And I'm not sure about the former.

1. "This World" is finite.

2. "This World" is only a piece of the Milky Way Galaxy which is finite.

3. While it has no boundary, the Universe itself is finite both in space and time.

Therefore you are wrong on several levels however you may be correct on the stupidity of mankind, if only evidenced by your knowledge of cosmology. :p
