I wonder what the attacker's history is.  At 48 years old, I wonder if he was affected by Reagan's closure of mental institutions.

It was my understanding that a significant number of folks who had been in a treatment facility for mental problems had been released. The release was due to an ACLU suit claiming that these people were being held without a finding that they were a danger to themselves or others. I do not recall anything attributed to Reagon for this action. It was a court decision that a person could not be held in a treatment facility absent a court order and a finding that they would be adanger to themselves or others.

mav, what chairboy is saying, in classic liberal democrat socialist fashion is that president reagan stabbed a baby a year after he died.

Its a classic example of why liberals suck :aok

Umm...  nope, was just wondering if he was affected by the cuts to the sanitariums that happened in the early 80s, the ones credited with putting a lot of mentally ill people out on their own.

Not sure why you call me a liberal, I'm no fan of welfare states, and the idea of government institutions that take over the responsibillity for keeping someone 'out of sight and mind' is pretty darn scary.  Involuntary commitment to these places was an oft abused and dangerous process that disenfranchised thousands.

I'm guessing the lady doth protesteth too much, yer tilting at windmills.

BTW, your 'liberal vs. conservative' scale is pretty limiting, you should check out the Nolan chart.  I ain't no tax & spend demo-crat, if that's what you're suggesting.

If you had included this in your statement it might have been taken differently.

Where do you stand on that subject? Is it a President or an orginisation responsable for the release of the mentaly ill.

Or was the post a display of vitriolic bias???

I'm against the state executing it's citizens.  In situations where acts of such gross, intcontrovertable depravity are commited in public, I would expect the near-by citizens to "spontaneously" murder the attacker.

No way in hell would there a jury that would convict them.
