Title: subs!!!
Post by: karmic on September 09, 2005, 03:14:28 AM
I understand it would be really really hard to do it but adding subs would add a whole new dimension to the game.  add depth charges to the ships in the fleets and pt boats; heck what about a gv that could lauch DCs into the water defending a port too?)  Maybe some more AI convoys to hunt with subs.  And even player resupply convoys of transports with some armament; players could always team up with escorts for added safety.  maybe another launchable craft (like PT boats) but bigger and costing a few perks)+resupply transports could rearm/repair subs just like an m3 can resupply/repair friendly GVs

If you'v ever heard of the older mmo 'Iron Wolves' (you could use subs, transports, destroyers, cruisers, and some other stuff I think); that was a great game for its time and like I said would add a whole new element and even attract more players to AH.

Heck even add a new class of perks : it could be fighters / bombers / ground / & ships (not sure what rescue choppers would fall under)

(could make perks earned on fleet ships and PTs go to the ship category as well as points from subs and transports)

Could even add depth charges as aircraft ordinance in buffs and certain fighters  (salvo | delay | fuse/depth)

And DC launcher player positions on fleet ships

Title: Spawn Camping CV's with Subs...
Post by: 2Hawks on September 11, 2005, 11:34:58 AM
I would love to sit outside of a port and increase my score everytime a fleet spawned undefended... :)_

Then Again... That would inspire the Hunt like they do now for Spawn Campers... :) Gotta have em!!!

It maybe Aces High, but I tend to see a lot of other things in the game besides planes.   I would consider this more of a WW2 Sim then a Flight Combat Sim.

Well, the first thing that would be needed to do is to slow down the fleets.

They cannot be going at Flank Speed all the time.

The next thing to do is to add Destroyers, and possibly Cruisers (for perks) to the GV list.  Give them limited fuel.

Next thing to do is to put resupply convoys out in open water.

Next thing to do is give us Sub destroying planes and the like.

What you CANNOT do is make subs and the like a controllable fleet.  It just won't work.

Oh, also make it so that only some bases can spawn the ships.

I do recall a certain HTC employee talking about adding SUBS to Aces High.  And I do remember he was empatic about it being in version 2.0.

Subs have been used in action since the American Revolutionary War, with the Turtle.

The drill was ineffective on the turtle. The hulls of ships were too thick. However, attaching explosive devises was much more effective, and was used in the civil war on the .. what was it? ... the "Hunley" (I think?).

Most effectively, however, the modern submarine boat came out a bit before WW1.
