Title: Spysherrif?
Post by: FOGOLD on September 10, 2005, 05:25:46 AM
My sisters PC just got a Spysherrif trojan. It is an absolute swine and I am going to have to reinstall windows. She still runs Win98 and had a firewall up.

Can't find much about it on the web, and worryingly it seems to be quite new.

Anyone else?

Avoid this mother at all costs.

AVG free version, download the updates first.

If that doesn't nail it, boot up with the win98 startup disk. Run AVG dos. Reboot.

That "Should" kill most anything.

GL yell if you have problems.

The PC is SO infested I think I am going to give them my old games machine wirth XP fresh installed. These guys are so uninterested in PC's they need a bombproof system. Win 98SE doesn't cut it anymore.

Thanks for the input. I triied Spybot S & D and it couldn't clear it out even in safe mode.

Even better, use this as an opportunity to train her not to open attachments and run unknown programs.  After getting XP on the system, configure it as an administrator, then change her account to be User.  That should prevent a lot of grief.
