I can only view the default skins.
Is this how it's supposed to be?
I've never used the SkinViewer before.

I can view any skin, but can only view the top of the plane, from a fixed distance.  Are there other ways to change the perspective other than the 2 sliders?

As it is, for skinning, this is not very useful, and I still will need to load each change into the game to view it properly...

- Right click and move your cursor to change angles
- cntrl+right click and move your cursor to move the object (plane)
- Shift+Right click and move your cursor up or down to zoom in or out

You cannot view online skins with it. This is mainly just for skinners to use, make a new folder in your skins folder called (planetype)1 and when you change a plane's bmp, place it in there and you will be able to view it in the skin viewer.

Open it and next to planetype click "Browse" then select "stdshape", close the skin viewer and it should work
