At work, need a camera to monitor a groomer, we have reason to belive she is hitting dogs.
What kind of cheap options do we have?
Required:
B&W Image
Affordable
Realiable
Hidden
No sound needed, just a real time image recorder..
Anyone else got any tips?
Cause we can't take her down hard with out evidence, and we want to take her down extremely hard.
-
If there is a PC in the room you can use a simple web cam and D/L some simple software for it.
-
$40 including shipping.

What are your intentions? Legal or just getting them fired?
Have you considered direct confrontation?
How about bringing in a pit bull?
This a co-worker? or somebody your family uses to groom your pet?
Had a mailman kick my dog thru a screen door when I was a kid.. so I let the dog out. Dog spent 14 days in quarantine, mailman spent 2 days in the hospital. Never saw that guy delivering mail again.
-
Don't know if they still have them or not but those little X10 camera's were cheap and from what a couple people told me they worked fairly well.
-
Neither..
We've had direct confrontation..
She refused to admit or deny..
Legal action will be taken.
She's going down, and she's going down hard, wether in the court or by word of mouth.

All our pitbulls that come to our Hospital will more than likely lick you to death before biting you....
But we do have the occasional Protection Trained dogs.

With a wireless transmitter you can place the receiver and VCR up to 150 feet away within the confines of the building. If the camera is near an outer wall, you can have the VCR as far away as 700 feet.
Ultimately, the question goes to how much you are willing to spend. You can expect to spend $400 at a minimum.
My brother's neighbor (a police officer for the adjacent county) was having problems with someone vandalizing his property (mailbox, light fixtures, etc) and he spent about $450 to install a motion sensing video camera, wired to a VCR in his garage. Within two weeks he had video of three local kids smashing his light fixture.
He showed the tape to their parents after the boys were picked up for vandalism. They not only paid for several mail boxes and light fixtures, they payed for the camera too. Their options were limited... Pay all expenses or their little darlings would be prosecuted. According to my brother, there's been no vandalism in the neighborhood since. Apparently, the little monsters didn't realize that the house they were targeting was the home of a cop... Stupid is as stupid does.

Sorry, guess the ebay link busted. Just search for "security camera", there are a bunch of very inexpensive cameras, wireless and wired, that will fit the bill. The wireless ones all come with a receiver. I've used them with good luck at my pizza stores as well as on the R/C tank I used to explore my crawlspace.
-
cheaperthandirt has a wireless pin size camera disguised as a screw, only helps when building lol.
and wireless reciever/transmitter for 94.
-
On eBay, there are deals for color wireless camera/receiver combos for $45, shipping included. So apparently, there ARE things that are cheaper than dirt, and they come from Hong Kong.

Audio tapes are inadmissable in court unless submitted by the police. May be the same for photos or videos.
Good luck, but have you asked the police about it? If you want it to stand up in court they have to do it.

It's our property..
I belive we can install hidden cameras without the knowing of staff.
-
Yup, but that evidence won't be shown to the court unless the police do it. The reasoning is tape or video media can be altered and sometimes is.
If the police are satisfied with the evidence then it would be admissible. Submitting your own photos, while may be completely authentic, must be approved and authenticated by the police to be admissible in a court.

just fire the person for whatever bs cause the owners want to cook up if they feel its actually happening. It may be the owners right to put up cameras but if you "film" her scratching under her bra or anything of a personal nature and they find it then you better have your watermelon together.
-
Hmm..
Perhaps I should contact the police and insist on them installing cameras or be the ones who take the recorded material.

Photo and vidio evidence by any disinterested third party who can testify as to its authenticity is acceptable to any court.
The police dont have to present all evidence.

Ever consider a local private investigator? They should have all the monitoring devices you need and will know all the legal stuff surrounding filming someone.

Or would it have to be someone pulled off the streets who dosn't mind animal beating? :furious

$39.95 camera from the link above. (http://www.supercircuits.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4237)
Place the camera anywhere, run cable to next room. Plug into VCR from home. When she is alone with animal hit record.
Price to pay for catching the abuse is $39.95. If it really means that much to you then you only have to ditch AH2 for 3 months to pay for it. :aok

Alot..
But why spend $400.00 when you can spend 180 and get two cameras.
-
So, hitting the dogs. Like with a rolled up newspaper? like a smack across the rump? Like a whack across the chops with a 2X4? what?
If she is causing injuries to the dogs, then it seems pretty simple to me. Call the police, the dog is evidence, and they can tell you what to do.
If she is just smacking them around, then you have someone who doesn't like animals working for you. fire her prettythang.
Going all Maxwell smart is just a little over the top. Hooboy.
fire and forget.

just FYI, you may want to speak with a lawyer or someone like that and find out exactly what types of recordings and videos are admissable in court, I don't think webcams are. Thats why are grocery stores and mini marts have a certain type and it says approved by so and so on them... When you start talking evidence theres allot of yellow tape involved there. If you actually bring up criminal charges of animal abuse its usually a really hard case to win, and very rarely does anything other than a small fine get imposed on the criminal. So if you want to stick it to her good, make sure all the equipment you will be using is admissable in court. Unless she actually kills some of the animals I'm sorry to say I doubt you will be able to do anything to her, its bad to say but the courts really don't care if someone hits a dog or not, they would have to arrest half the rednecks in the US if that were the case. If I were you I would simply cut all my business with her and leave it at that. In reality if you go buy all the equipment, pay for an attourney, court costs and your time, the absolute most you could hope 4 would be a small fine on her part. Our animal laws just suck, I used to be a paralegal for a small law firm in fort worth, i've seen cases where the lawyer I was working for actually would not defend this guy because he knew the guy was lying. the circumstances were that the man had 3 horses and had a fire in his barn where about 1/2 of it burned down, 4 horses were killed along with various other animals, 3 horses lived but were burned badly, the man threw a chain around the horses necks and kept them chained to a big metal post in his back yard, then left and abandoned them with no food / water. animal rights workers were called by neighbors eventually and the horses were taken and euphanized because they were in agony. The police went to his house to serve a court order to have him appear in court on charges of animal abuse. The man wasn't there so the cops just left a note on his door that said they were looking for him... Luckily for the police the man showed back up a week later and went to the police station lookin for his horses, they didn't even arrest him. Just told him to appear at court and gave him a date. I'm glad to see that there is at least 1 lawyer that shows a little ethics, we basically told the guy to go F himself

Asmall fine is a Big learning experience and yes Hawklore Either take actions or dont do anything u can buy a dog for 400$ hell u can spend over 1000$ on most breeds i am an animal lover esp dogs My 3 month old puppy boxer was recently almost found dead .The cage we had has 2 Closing attachments one to the top and one to the bottem . Only the top latch was closed and while gone (an hr or 2) he wedged his head under the bottem of the door and the cage and was choking . As i came to the window he looked dead i rushed in only to see him still moving .His face covered in vomet and saliva . He put up a REAL STRUGGLE for life and he made it .. hes my pride and joy and i love him to death . IMMEDATLY i had took pictures of his nasty chaffed neck and shoulder and the POS cage and how he got stuck and have had the coompany recall all there cages with similar latches . Take action if she wants to abuse the animals u abuse her .With the cops ..
''Unless she actually kills some of the animals I'm sorry to say I doubt you will be able to do anything to her, its bad to say but the courts really don't care if someone hits a dog or not, they would have to arrest half the rednecks in the US if that were the case.'' ICEMAN u are totally incorrect ..i dont know where your from but here in the US animal cruelty it takin quite seriously .Most will get prosecuted to the fullest extent of there crime and the law ..Dont hit an animal and expect a petty fine or a smack on the wrist Expect to get locked up
-
Man, if there is something i cannot stand, it is people hurting animals.
i wouldnt be asking about cameras or cops
-
There are legal ramifications if you guys don't do this right.
We did it to one of our employees we suspected of stealing from another employee's purse.
In order for the tapes to be valid legally we had to hire a professional private investigator who set up the camera and who also did the confrontation once she was caught red handed. It cost us a few hundred dollars, but probably saved us a heck of alot more in the long run.
I have no idea what your state or federal laws are on this but check it out...people who beat animals SHOULD go down hard.
-
no no curvy, not down by "the law"
i had a friend once who tossed my cat...the beating of his life
havent talked to the guy since this day.
you hurt the innocent, you should be doubly punished
-
The mere act of attempting to throw a cat should be self correcting. Cats are equipped with an anti-throwing mechanism which, upon initial windup, results in the claws deploying into the arms of the thrower.
Usually.
-
chairboy, I said "innocent"

I want this.. only about 60$
sorry.. its in norwegian but you get the idea.. small lens and wireless. im sure you can get something similar.

I live in Fort Worth and worked for a law firm for 4 years. I should have stated in my personal experience or the lawyer I worked fors experience we found it best to stay away from animal cruelty or abuse cases because just like I stated the judge will usually throw the case out as theres no pure evidence against the person. should they choose legal counsil any lawyer worth his salt will be able to get the case thrown out... I hope this doesn't happen here, I hate to see people like that getting away with it, and maybe if you do get it videotaped it may help in prosecuting her, I just see way too many loopholes a descent lawyer could get around these might sound crazy but the judge will have to take it into consideration. She was defending herself from the dog, or she thought the dog would bite her. Yes animal laws are a huge deal right now, and the main thing your hearing is that the laws, if any, are not strict enough and anybody can squeeze through a loophole... A few things you will have to prove and show evidence of in court are injury to the animal which could be hard to do, you will have to show that she is negligant or that she caused that specific injury...its basically your word against hers and unfortunately the best witness for you can't speak... A videotape of her causing injury to the animal would be best allong with a detailed analysis of the injury from a vet stating what caused it. But like I said earlier in my personal experience I wouldn't be surprised it the judge throws it out or at best gives her a small fine which will be no worse than a speeding ticket. I wish it wasn't the case but once you start talking legal jargin the prosecution really has no leg to stand on because they have no evidence or witnesses. All in all you will be out allot more money than her in the end, maybe if you win the judge will award you the court costs and I doubt that, you will still be out a lawyer and your time. Because theres not a judge in the US that will take you seriously without an attourney, its almost as if they don't listen to you. We have animal laws, they are just really really hard to enforce. And only in extreme cases is anything done to the defendants
-
Hawk, just let her go.
Tell her you have had compaints about her treatment of the dogs from the owners and you cannot afford to lose customers. I'm assuming you are a small business owner and you have every right to be deserning about your employees. Worst thing that can happen is she gets her unemployement claim approved.
If your gonna do the survailence thing you better call your lawyer first.
-
Hawk, just let her go.
she could potentionally sue you for putting her under surveillance... thats a real iffy subject right now... i would take cliffra's advice and if you still want to take action bight the bullett and get ya a lawyer
-
If it was up to me you guys, I'd fire her bellybutton and send out newsletters to local groomers/hospitals..
But I aint boss, I'm just an employee..
But yea.. loser, we allready have an amazon hot chick that's taller and stronger than me that will beat her bellybutton on command..
:aok
-
You want her gone? You ain't the boss? Then don't bother with a camera. You may discover that she's more valuable to the boss than you are on a revenue earned basis.
Surely there resides somewhere in your young mind the means to rise to the occasion and handle the situation.
Be creative. I'd make suggestions, but that could be construed as contributing the the delenquincy of a minor.
Adapt. Overcome.
Or get used to being an ineffectual whiner.
Good luck, kid!

man it isnt about size, it's about strength of heart
and it isnt about being a manager
someone harms an animal, boom, punched out

A hidden camera?
You don't need to get her caught, you can just as well refrain her from doing it.
Make up a fake camera and make sure she sees it or at least sees you installing it to look over the yard.
When the camera is outside, it doesn't have to look exactly like a camera, because outside cameras are put into a case which covers the camera from rain and such.
Put a glass cover in front and perhaps a lens from binoculars inside the case, just to make it look like a camera lens.
The cameras first function is to work as a deterrant and the secondary function is to work as an aid in identifying a subject.
If the deterrant works, you'll save money.
If doesn't, then you can consider a real camera.
Either ways, you probably wouldn't get much out of it even if you'd get her caught in the act.

I guess i should clarify, I have a cat, walks with me every day like a dog. We did 5 km today.
Ive walked with wild coyotes, wolves, and other assorted animals
not one has hurt me
thusly, i return the favour, and i dont take kindly to those who do.

Ahh, this is just a matter of technique!
Cats are equipped specifically for throwing. They have a throwing handle, commonly called a "tail". Simply grab the cat by the throwing handle, or "tail", quickly impart motion, the result is that centrifugal force keeps the throw preventers ("claws") away from you until you release the cat into ballistic trajectory.
Its quite simple, really (although perhaps not cricket ;))

Hawk, have any of your customers stated that they believe this is happening? If not it's only speculation and that will not cut it. Unsubstatiated accusation most often look worse for the accuser than the accused. If there are complants made by customer tell them to put it in writing to your employer. If he's worth anything he will confront her with them. Otherwise I would stay out of it if I were you.
Also remember that 'SHE' is one of the protected classes in our society. I didn't think of this when I wrote my last post. If your employer does not have all his facts straight she can bring action against him for "sex" discrimination or she could potentially bring a bogus sexual harrassment case against him. He would most likely win against any such action but the cost of defending against one of these can get pretty expensive.
I'm also surprised that she is an employee. My wife worked for many years in the Vet business and all groomers were contractors. If you dont like the groomer you just do not renew her contract.

Hmm on the police issue, Offer their canine unite free dog grooming for their umm assistence. just dont tell da groomer she is smacking around a trained police dog:rofl

What Nilsen posted seems to be what you are looking for. 200 meter range. Very small size. Reciever can be connected to VCR's, TV's, PC's etc. It's had alot of good comments about it aswell.
If you need help translating the info of it I can help you. Would really think that is what you need. Color, sound is also available.

Regarding the legality of taping in a business...
Put up a large fake camera outside the front door and aimed at the door itself, and post a prominant sign nearby "CCTV surveilance on these premises". Then put cameras wherever you like.
