My sister wrote this poem, thought I'd share it with you.
"Somebody is Grateful"
(Because of You)
Somebody's child is grateful
that you broke into his room one night.
When flames were striving to consume him,
To his left and to his right.
He knew the helpless feeling of no one being there,
and when he thought to give up, a fireman did appear.
Somebody's mother is grateful,
that you risked your life that day.
That you thought not of yourself,
as you carried him safely away.
You breathed the air of life into him
as his mother knelt to pray.
And then the child inhaled the precious air,
and she knew he was okay.
Somebody's wife is grateful,
that her husband came safely home.
With the odor of smoke and fire,
she knows he was close to harm.
Somebody's son is full of pride
because his Dad's a special man.
He is better than any comic hero,
his Dad's a fireman.

I have been seriously looking into pursuing a career as a fireman, It seems im alittle to young to start now...But it really feels like its what I want to be for a living.

tell her thanks. thats a great poem.

Fubar how old are you? Some depts allow members as young as 16 but are referred to as "jr fireman." I dont know if tey can do everything or not, but if you can find a dept like that, it will be a great place to learn everything that does with being a fireman.

my brother is a firefighter, there is no more honourable profession IMHO

See if your local FD has an "explorer" program or something similar. Either that or a nearby volunteer dept you could go for.
Get involved early, and a lot of times they'll sponsor you through an academy if they know you're a good guy. They'll give you a heads-up on job openings, too. And you'll have a huge leg up when it comes to knowing your tools, your apparatus (trucks), and your procedures.

I'm 17, and yes They do have the explorer program. Been checking it out today.

Go for it Fuby. My brother-in-law loves being a fireman. He's also their medic.

I was a firefighter for 8 years. Many good times. Some very sobering times when you go on a major accident, or industrial accident and see how disfigured the human body becomes in a highspeed crash, or caught in industrial equipment. Funny times too, like the time we rolled on a major accident, pulled up to the scene, started administering first aid to those who needed, and my buddy tells me to stay away from this gaudy looking woman. My buddy whispered to me and told me he asked her name, and "he" said, "Roger" in a tenor voice. Ouuu. Look out HIV. Mostly good times, good pay, great hours if you get 24 on, 48 off. Definitely recommend it.
Best regards,
Cement
