Title: vapor trails on high G manuvers
Post by: 1K3 on September 21, 2005, 02:22:01 PM
is it possible to have vapor trails on wingtips when executing high G manuvers? make the vapor trails a bit short so it wont hurt your frame rates.

I swear to god (and no I'm not taking his name in vain, I mean I would swear on a bible with my hand raised) that I saw them once in a high speed high G pull from a spitfire in my gunsight at close range (150-ish) he pulled up too hard and I swear I saw vapor trails off of his wingtips, but he whipped past me too fast for me to get a screenshot and I wasn't rolling film.

Only seen it once, but there you have it.

I think I've seen this same discussion come up before, and as much as it pains me, I'm going to agree with Raptor. No "grubby halo, a vapor trail in the empty air."

I just saw vapor trails off wingtips last Sunday.  I was chasing a Typhoon at high speed an low altitude.  As I got close, he pulled lots of g's, and I saw trails.  Has anyone else seen this recently?  I don't think I was seeing things.

Ok, I'm going to try checking this out and see if I can get some verification.

There are no vapor trails in ah off the wingtip. However I have seen unadamaged planes momentarily emit 2 straks of white smoke from the wing roots on occasion - I think its a bug.

What I saw might very well have been off wing roots intead of wing tips.  I can't replicate it offline, and I have seen it online only once.

I only saw it online once as well, it was a freak thing. A high speed dive and the target pulled major G's to pull up and I overshot and saw the trails. They were on the wing tips (not roots) and I have not been able to replicate it. I tried to have somebody follow me in a dive and pull up real hard, but they did not see anything (they weren't really trying tho' -- too far out).

P.S. this wansn't "smearing" that my new LCD has, it was distinct white trails off the wing tips. Like a gas leak, but in a different spot, and it only lasted a moment. I was using a CRT back then.

well, if they aren't ingame, they should be. and if they are, they should be made more frequent.

They could do it with the offline smoke. Just make it less and white.

The person you were fighting probably accidentally turned their engine off and when they turned it back on you saw the start up smoke

Or it was a spit mk I, and the engine cut out on him under negative G, and re-fired when fuel was restored.

It was a Typhoon, but I guess it could have been an engine restart.
