A journalist in the UK gets a first hand view of the gradual transition to police state that we may all be facing. England's enthusiasm for letting terrorists implement wholesale changes to society (through intermiediaries) is saddening, and I see the same thing happening here soon.

Soon? America is leading the way in this.
See for example the power granted to the president to detain citizens indefinately without charge or the abuse of the material witness law to detain suspects when insufficient evidence is available, and to conduct fishing expeditions for evidence.
In Britain there has been a heightened law enforcement response. In the US there has been a move to circumvent some of the protections granted by the legal system.
It seems to be only a matter of time before Britain goes the same way, at least whilst Blair is in charge.
