edit typo its 308th FS 31st FG doh!
I have started on probably my last of 3 p51D's which is a request for a 308th Fighter Squadron/31st Fighter group stripe tailed p51D.
I am trying to model either an aircraft called "Flying DUTCHMAN" code "HL N"
or "American Beauty?" code "HL B"
I have no squadron info or pilot info on these planes.
only have a pic of a modern day warbird painted as the "flying dutchman, HL N" and a ww2 pic of "american beauty?, HL B" with the nose obscured.
any info on pilots or more pics etc of these two planes if anyone has any info would help a lot!

Oops, answered in General discussion first.
Bob Goebel flew "Flying Dutchman"
John Voll flew "American Beauty"
Both 308th FS, of the 31st Fighter Group.
Goebel's biography is called Mustang Ace, with many photos.
What you want? :)
Profiles of both in Osprey's Mustang Aces of the 9th , 15th and RAF

Close up of Goebel in the cockpit of Flying Dutchman.
Crew Chief S.SGT Carpenter
Armorer Cpl. Langlois
And the profile from the Osprey book. No clue why it is HL-D there. Cover of his book has it HL-N so that makes the most sense.

Hey Fester~
I just found this on the 31st's official website.
http://www.31stfightergroup.com/31stReference/history/31planes.html
John Voll was the pilot just as Guppy mentioned... and Robert Hendry was the crew chief.
If you follow the link there's a nice color profile on the the bottom of the page of American Beauty.
I haven't poked around much more than that, but The website seems to have some good info and plenty of pics.
Good luck and thanks for the great work!

Fester, I posted this to the other forum. Not the Dutchman, but American Beauty.
Included are shots of the replica paint job on the P-51 based in Florida.
