Just watched a program last night on Discovery Channel about Russian WWII aircraft. The La7's were actually used in large numbers during the last year of the war.

2 gun La7's saw large use.  I don't believe there to be more than 10 3 gun la7's.

I wish for the F4U-4B...used at the end of the War in limited numbers...and then flew into history during the Korean Conflict.

La7 was a disposable fighter if I recall, but it could have been a Yak.  Was of course the 2 engine La though.

Smidsy....

Your Grandfather was the Uber Geek of his day!  :-)

His scope was vastly different than what they look at today.  Took a lot of skill to operate and to do it at night in the air in enemy territory damn!  Takes some major stones!  Mega Kudos to your Grandfather.
