My dad wants to put a coating on his garage floor. He's been asking around at different hardware stores and such, and he's looking for some advice as to what the best products to use are. From what he's told me, there are a lot of options.
He's not looking for carpet ;) , just that nice smooth coating like you see at car dealerships and such. Of course, durability and cost are big factors as he doesn't want to have to recoat it that often.
Any tips?

I've always prefered the old reliable dirt and motor oil coating. It seems to make the concrete last forever.

Here in town, there's a shop that specializes in import cars. You could eat off their shop floors. If you've got a shop in town like that, ask the owner what he thinks.

The only thing I know of I don't even know the name. It was recommended by the guys on speedvision. It was a grey primer like paint that you sprikled these little "traction dots" on and then put a clear coat on top of that.
I plan on painting my garage floor some day.

I think there is something called 'topping mix' that is for that purpose. Just go to your local home depot and read the 'uses' section on the bags. There are only a few choices for the ordinary man.

Actually, from the research I've done, it really isn't. I guess their customer service REALLY sucks. If the concrete isn't brand new, you have to go thru an extensive cleaning process (like most of them) to clean off the oil, grease, dirt, etc.
A lot of the reviews that I've read on this stuff is that even after following the mfg guidelines for cleaning to the letter, the stuff pulls off the concrete when driving on it, or chips off. The customer service response always seems to be, "you didn't clean it correctly, have a nice day."
Now, I haven't used this stuff myself, but based on the all the reviews I've read, I don't think I will.

Ucoatit is indeed one of the better products out there. Expensive stuff, but if you floor is properly treated ahead of time, the stuff is like titanium. Whatever you use, just make sure you treat and dry the garage floor ahead of time.

I was once breifly in the concrete and topcoating business. I have never met more charlatans or snake oil salesmen in my life. My last act for the company I worked for was to serve papers on a few of the guys who sold crap that was .... less than advertised.
