Title: Canada's new rescue chopper taken out of service
Post by: CMC Airboss on September 30, 2005, 02:01:09 PM
It looks like there are problems with the new CH-149 Cormorant that were just brought online 3 years ago.  They are being replaced by the CH-146 Griffon in several cases.  Aircraft availability is down to less than 50% of the fleet. Weak airframe, poor reliability, and lack of spares are primary problems.   Based on the Agusta EH-101, this is the same airframe that the new US-101 Marine One will be developed from.  It seems Canada wants to keep them as they are the prime search and rescue platform.

Anyone who names an aircraft a Cormorant should be beaten with a broomstick.
