I haven't studied this yet. Reportedly, it will prevent those lawsuits from paraplegics and members of decedant's families, who tried to rob armed citizens, and who were promptly stopped in thier tracks by constitutional lead poisoning,
To me, it sounds like a reasonable piece of legislation, but I'm open to other opinions....

In a nutshell it means if someone breaks into your house and threatens your or your family you can defend yourself with lethal force and not get into trouble for doing it.
The old law says you have to retreat from the threat.
This is a very good change to the law and should have been done long ago.
-
The old law said you have to give the intruder a free shot at your back before you could defend yourself. Liberal logic if ever I heard it.

Anti-law campaign from the Brady backers:

Very good.
Indeed.
re that goofy ad campaigin.. should be changed.
"Don't drive like an *******. The guy you just tried to kill by cutting him off with your rented SUV may just decide the rid the Florida highways of another arrogant NY tourist.
Remember.. the guy you cut off is probably armed and he's not about to give you (or anybody else) a second chance to kill him."

Mickey, that poster completely misrepresents the law. The law specifically states that you have to be on your own property.
I hope the Brady group gets sued for trying to scare tourists into not going to Florida.
-
Ahh, the Brady campaign, disinformation, lieing and trying to scare people their stock in trade.

The democrats always misrepresent the laws. Thats why I tend to not vote for them.
-
actually, I may be incorrect, as I have not read the full version of the law. I just heard on the news that the law specified being on your own property.

So even the Brady campaign admits that this law will encourage people to behave more properly in public..
Gosh! Who would have thought that they ever get some common sense?

The castle doctrine just gives legal recognition that a person can not retreat any further than into his home. There is no refuge beyond it for the person who lives there so they can't be expected to flee their domain in the face of a criminal attack or threat. It has nothing to do with roads or anything else. It just means you can't be expected to retreat FROM your home and may defend yourself or family from a home invasion. In effect it says that a reasonable person would be in fear of their lives from an illegal assault while in their home.
Arizona has always been that way as far as I can recall.
I just do not understand the rational that expects a person living in a place to flee from the criminal invading it. That means the criminal has more right to it that does the person that lives there. Freaking damn DUMB concept.
How can you tell a brady supporter is lying? Just like a lawyer, their lips are moving.

Ever notice that Florida is kinda shaped like a pistol?
I love the Sunshine state (My Home)

Florida must be trying to make a sensible comeback from the 2000 elections.
It's a start, but...we'll keep watching.

They are. I think there's 36 States now with Right To Carry for regular citizens. When they passed their law, there were only 16.
I hope like hell the trend continues.

I feel compelled to once again point out to you pointy headed people that the 2000 election fiasco was perpetrated upon us by transplanted northerners who couldn't find their rear ends with maps and signs pointing the way. here's an idea. quit coming here to die. according to sarah brady and friends we can now accellerate the process. stay in new york.

Who the hell WANTS to move to wrinkle ranch? Problem is, when you turn 65 the OPP (Old People Police) shows up, chucks you and yer crap inna Beakins hauler and they MAKE you move to Florida.
As for the other nonsense.. Florida has had a Right to Carry Law for 20 years. The only thing they've done NOW is prevent the dirtbag perps and tree huggers from suing for a righteous shoot of an invading scumbag or alligator.
"pointy headed people" my ass... cripes I hope they hurry up the global warming process. What will it take, 13" of ocean level rise and Atlanta real estate salesmen will be showing Oceanfront property?
How long can you conh's tread water, anyway?

Always? Really? There has never been an instance of a Democrat telling the truth about a law? Tell me another one!

If Brady was really smart, he would have pushed for a law making it illegal to shoot at the President of the US.

That's funny. Not.
It's illegal to shoot at anyone, unless it's in self defense. Brady never made much noise on the gun scene until after he became a virtual vegetable manipulated by his wife.
-
Reagon got shot at the same time Brady got shot. Reagan didn't become a complete puss.
-
Interesting. It's almost as if I were using sarcasm to make a point. Whatever could it have been?

sarcasm implies some kind of humor.
-
It certainly does.
-
Reagan and Brady get shot. Brady becomes a vegetable and his wife lobbies bills to be passed in his name. Reagan doesn't even mention the incident again.

Can Brady still move his tail at least? Or is it akin to broccoli too?

We northerners send our old people down there so at least some Florida residents keep speaking english as their primary language.
As far as a "fiasco" is concerned, I'm rather happy with the outcome of the 2000 election as well as with the piece of legislation which prompted this thread.

I just checked out the website "shootfirstlaw.org" and I want to know why these people feel we do not have a right to defend ourselves if our lives & family are in danger. These people make me very angry. I hope that someone attacks one of their family members and see if they can stand by and do nothing, if they can then that means their family gene is weak and needs to be eliminated from the earth anyway.
I work in a Max prison and I can tell you that prisons do not change these punks, they need to be taken to the morge strait from the scene of the crime instead.
The moment someone decides to physically attack me is the moment they gave up their right to their life.

the biggest lie in the brady bunch is that "police" support their views... Real police most certainly do not. the so called "police" who support them are the politicians called "police chiefs" who... like all politicians will say whatever the people who buy their job tell them to say.
This law if the best part of the NRA at work... the gutsy side...
They have a new president who is every bit as tough as Heston was... and a little more savy and...
much less vulnerable... it is a woman. Brady has their shrill, lying and emotional harpy of a woman and the NRA has a calm, educated and rational and good natured woman...
the irony of this continueing stereotype is probly lost on the left and democrats in general.

Actually police in Ca can legally shoot a fleeing felon, in the back, if he represents an immeadiate danger to the community. I'm sure other states have similar laws.
-
you most certainly can shoot an armed or dangerous intruder in the back... If you don't you are being foolish. What you gonna do ... wait for him to get better cover or maybe just reload?
