Saitek X-52 review (http://www.combathanger.com/fighterreviews/x52/x521.html)
Theres a little triangle/arrow on the right side of the listing for the mini-stick (its at the bottom of the list of buttons). You click that arrow and choose MOUSE / BANDS / AXIS
The button next to it defaults to mouse button 1, but can be programmed just like all the other buttons.

Alf,
Is this on the stick map screen? I cant seem to find it.

When your in the profile editor thingy, with the picture of the throttle on the left and list on the right, its all the way down at the bottom of the list, there are several axis that can be changes...the little arrow is on the right side of the list boxes (ie: just to the right of the combathanger logo in the pic...although that pic doesnt show the arrows cause its not scolled down far enough on the list)

Alf, next time hit "Print Screen" and "Paste" it into MSPaint. Looks less...freaky.
The Saitek software sits in the tray (next to the clock) and looks like a joystick. Double click it.
