Title: How much do you modify your behavior?
Post by: Godzilla on October 03, 2005, 03:05:48 AM
To what extent do you modify your bevavior based on how you perceive others opinions and observation of you?

For example, if you would normally pick your nose in your car on the way to work, but would not do that if you thought someone was watching you.

This can get weird if you really think about it.

One example of mine: I sometimes repress laughter at a silly thought I might have, because I know that nobody would understand what I was laughing about.

I find myself laughing at thougts I have and people look at me real strange.  I just look at them and grin and notice they get real scared...lol.

I'm not often invited back for dinner.

The older I get the more dubious I've become of social morals. PC behaviour modifcation annoys the hell outta me.

When my balls itch, I scratch 'em.

Imo scratching your balls at the dinner table is acceptable behaviour if your subtle about it. After all an itch is there to be scratched. But using the cutlery like a salad fork to scratch with might be pushing the boundaries of dinner table etiquette.

If you have a dog that is occasional hand fed scraps at the table, you might want to be careful with that one...

feeding yer pets from the dinner table is disgusting behavior. If yer gonna feed the damn thing from your table, just put his bowl on the table and give him a chair. while yer at it, why bother with silverware for yourself.

Scratching balls is less offensive than snuffling begging dogs.

it's said that if your bad at something, someone watching will screw you up .....

likewise, if your good at something , being watched makes you preform better.....

So I wonder if you think your being watched while picking your nose ..... if your really digging for it, or if you slip and poke yourself in the eye......I'll bet your digging for it you expert :D

I take it back...... this is an expert

I used to be more quiet or tell half truths around people I didnt know.
As I get older I find myself voicing my opinion more and caring less about if people liked what I am saying or not

Problem is. Most people dont like hearing the truth. They just want you to agree with them

How do you know what you're saying is the truth? :D (j/k)

I find myself being more PC about what I say around people, I hold my opinion in reserve...except on forums...then just the opposite occurs.

That would make a good hidden camera stunt. Get alone with someone in an elevator and just start snickering :)

My younger brother is funny. He would sit at the red light in the center of town. People all around and in plain view, he'd pick his nose. I dont mean a little rub, I mean deep digging to the second knuckle. And he would stare at people as he did it. Just to get a reaction out of them.

I went into a theatre the other night, and this troll of a man was in my way standing there, and starts to blow his nose in a hanky. Not a quiet blow, a big honkin blow you would see in a cartoon. Then he starts belching very loud. Its funny how some folks can just be themselves. Im very self concious with things like that. I wont take a dump at a house where the toilet is too close to the other people, if we were at a party or something.

The one area Im not shy in is talking however. I can meet a perfect stranger in a line, and start talking about anything. Sometimes intimate subjects. Its surprising how you can pull someone into an intimate conversation that normally wouldnt do so, if you just open up a bit and relax. Its a nice feeling.

  LOL..my bro..I gotta give him a call.

I modify my language and some attitudes.  Cant say why exactly, but I am a bit impressionable, so that might be it.

I modify.  If I'm in a public bathroom and I've got the squirts or a large amount of intestinal gas, and there is some poor unexpecting dude in the next stall, I give a courtesy flush timed to coincide with the first explosive release.  After that, though, he's on his own... :D

I am socially acceptable at all times under any circumstance.  My character is basically flawless, even under hardened stress.

I had an interesting experience over the past 13 years. I had a female Cocker Spaniel growing up from 3rd grade up all the way through college. Before her, dad would come home all pissed off going on a tear - and then Angel showed up. And even when she was just a little puppy, she would jump on his pillow with legs spread - when he would come home on a rant he'd look at her - her legs noticably shaking with "i'm gonna blow...just say another word." And magically, the yelling went to "angel...please get off my pillow." and of course she did it.

She died a week before I got diabetes in 2003 - but when I lived at home, even after she died - her cage was always in front of the door so it was impossible to get inside without setting her off.

And when i'd come home late at night, i'd find myself tiptoing not to wake her up, completely oblivious to the fact she was no longer there.

Case and point - i think the idea of training animals is a misnomer. They train us.

I moderate myself considerably. I don't want to see people picking their noses, so I don't pick mine. I don't want to see people scratchin' their balls, so I don't scratch mine. I've never really thought about it until this thread... but I guess that's probably how I govern myself.

Well.....who cares what you do, if it feels good do it.  Heck I saw a 40 something couple in Vicky's secret picking out thongs one day, me and my friends chuckled and went on our way.  If you are comfortable with yourself, it doesn't matter what others think.....or does it?

I used to be more PC. a long long time ago Never wanting to say anything that might offend anyone. bu those days are long gone.
And the older I ge the less PC I find myself being.
LOL I just dont care as much if people are offended or not.
Unless Im on buisness. that would be the one exeption where I hold my tongue or sometimes bite it as the case may be.
Cant piss the customer off LOL
then I'll just usually not say anything for as long as I can..

I'm 47 years old and I've decided I don't have to give a poo poo about what others think of me. I say and do whatever I want. It does however, explain why I have had 3 jobs in the last 5 years.
