Title: What can I use to show all processes?
Post by: rabbidrabbit on October 05, 2005, 12:47:19 PM
OK,

I have something running in the background of my win2003 box but it does not show up.  I know there are a few ways to show all processes beyond the task manager but I forget what does.  My virus scanner does not find anything but I bet it is... I just need to identify whats hogging 80 percent of my CPU time.  Any pointers?

I've used EndItAll (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1554267,00.asp) to close down programs.  It's also helped me in the past when I couldn't get rid of a virus through the Task Manager.

The processes tab in the task manager should show all threads running as well as the amount of resources used.

Does the system idle process show 100% in that area?

Process Explorer from Sysinternals.

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Microsoft support includes it in performance tuning and trouble shooting packages they ask you to run while online with you. We use it here at the Bank alot to run down strange processes.
