Title: Request: Hurricane Mk2D:
Post by: lasersailor184 on October 08, 2005, 03:55:04 PM
The Hurricane Mk2d is my favorite ride.  I love it so much.  However, the skin is starting to grow old on me.

So I went to the internet and books, but could find no pictures on it.

So I am requesting that someone make a skin or at least post some pictures they have of the Mk2D.

Note that the Mk4 skins also count.  They are practically the same plane.

I've never skinned for spits or hurris because I find them so limiting in what they have. There's a chance that the few Hurri2Ds in service (relatively speaking) were converted in the field, so they kept the camo they had before? (wild conjecture here)

Anyways, finding variation is the hard part. They're mostly the same it seems (which sucks for us skinners). Find me anything, something, whatever, and I might give it a shot.

EDIT: I found a couple models (one a IID, one a IV) and they have exactly the same paint as the default skin. Not an exhaustive search, just a heads-up that I've not found anything yet.

I'll see if I can do anything as well, laser.  I've been thinking of doing a Hurri for a while now.

Of course, it depends if Krusty sees anything worthwhile as well.

I haven't been looking all day, and there may be sources I did not find, but my initial results are less than uplifting.

Just been screwing around with the fuselage/left wing.

Just updating the old hurri skin to 1024 and new squadron code.

So far it just has camo and a small amount of unfinished weathering. No paint chipping yet.

Its pretty hard to make a desert skinned plane look dirty.

So basically like the Hurr1 and spit1 there's only 1 real option. Oh well, mightas well have a high res version of the same, eh?

Thats what I figured.  Might as well make the current skin look pretty.  Well, kinda pretty.  My lack of skinning skills is holding it back some.

flying them with the grey green cammo,i have  a profile some where on my pc  and had started to skin it,but other things keep coming up to get in the way.
the only difference is the grey green not much else

Went back and adjusted a few things:
 - Added some paint chipping and scratches
 - Changed colors to be a bit brighter
 - Made rivet and panel line highlights
 - Adjusted fabric ribbing to be more pronounced
 - Worked a little with the exhaust streak

I'm pretty angry at the fact that the fuselage gets really blurry in game.  It looks fairly decent IMO on the bitmap, but in game it stretches and blurrs and kills all the detail. Oh well, I'll work on it some more later.

If you do get ahold of it, I'd love to give it a whirl if I can.

Most likely that's a 1A or IIA/B. It doesn't have the filter or the gun pods. Plus, the Russkies loved using their IL2s for any tank busting.

That airwar.ru site is a good place for ideas, but they often mislabel things.

EDIT: Turns out they did use 'em... I guess their IL2s weren't always the best option for tank busting :)

The ONLY thing I've found so far for a IID/IV is this IID on a decal sheet. It's VVS and uses the previously mentioned Green/Grey.

It's a deep link so I don't want to put it as an IMG link, please click to minimize bandwidth theft.

The VVS often just took a plane and painted over the codes/markings, right? So if they took posession of an RAF green/grey they'd just find a similar color and "patch" the paint instead of repainting in VVS colors, right?
