Syria 2007. Can't say I'm excited about this one - too US-centric whereas the previous games always had a great scope for including 'minority' nations.
It appears we won't get a WW2 version for a couple of years to come either. And they are rather tastefully allowing for the inclusion of suicide bombers.

Syria 2007?
Geez Iraq not good enough for the faithfull??

Aye. I think they would have used Iraq if they thought they could have weathered the adverse public reaction. Afterall, people are still dying there.
I'm disappointed they didn't do an Israel '48 or maybe even a limited Korea. Middle East conflict has practically become a genre of its own these days.
Also, the problem with modern day is the engagement ranges so I believe this game will be almost completely urban based.

Heh. check the thread on "defense contracts". Many more posters than identified as such are higher-level military guys and defense contractors. :D

LOL Awesome!
I can't wait to hear the sound effects.
HALALALALALALALA !

I hope it gonna support custom sounds and it will be able to send these sounds over network, duting gameplay... we might use some heroic allah akbars from checna as we did in flashpoint :D

I would have thought the anti-US crowd would be happy to smite their
sworn foe safely in a sim.

dead is dead.
and if your virtual opfor against virtual US military, yah wind up dead.
virtually.

If it had to be fictional, I would have preferred an Operation Flashpoint type setting. That would have been interesting.
If I'd wanted an Imperialist versus colonial tribesmen scenario, I'd play Umboto Gorge Massacre again. Although it is rather sporting to allow the natives automatic weapons instead of dried grass...
...afterall, Iraq was apparently 'too easy'.
