Anyone want to give me $1.5mil so I can buy that puppy? Aww c'mon
-
Hope whoever buys it rebuilds it as stock military.
-
I was thinking the same Swager, but it looks like the owner is going to be picky about prospective buyers. He wants it to remain an active racer.

1.5 mil is a pretty fair price. If I only had 7 figures burning a hole in my pocket. Just checked my pockets...some spare change, a $5 and some high quality lint.

Ugly red color. Change it to silver with WW2 markings, and then it will be a beautiful plane

To me the "travesty" is turning a P-38 or P-51 into a White Lightening or Dago Red to begin with. It's always pissed me off to see these bastardized beasts at air shows. I hope someone tricks this owners fanny and buys it to restore.

Dago Red is a famous and unique airplane. It'd be a shame to rebuild it into just another normal-looking P-51 when hundreds of such aircraft already exist.

WHite Lightning is being rebuilt now. Not gonna be as White Lightning either, but bastardised still comes to mind.

Interesting. I seem to remember that it started out as an F5 photo recon version of an L, but had the cowls and such from an F model fighter, and it had the turbos removed. At least that's what it looked like last time I saw it about ten years or more ago. So what are they doing this time?

I say keep it a racer.. Afterall, Dago Red holds the world speed record for any piston powered aircraft. I think that makes it just as unique or 'more than' any other P-51 in existance.
