Title: Handley Page H.P.57 Halifax BIII
Post by: KD303 on October 11, 2005, 06:58:22 AM
Now, before you start sneering, I'll mention a few reasons as to why it might be worth having.

Up to 13,000 LB bomb load

Troops and supplies carrying ability. Infact it would IMO be better than the Goon in the MA because it has some guns. However, the fact that they only had .303s was the main reason they were withdrawn from daylight missions after 1941 so this is no doubt open to debate. The armament being - Four-gun dorsal and rear  turrets, albeit .303s. Still useful at close range.

Able to take a lot of damage and still get home.

It would also help to balance the British - American bomber ratio.

My main reason for suggesting the Halifax, is the dual-role capability mentioned before. The fact that it could be used to carry paratroops and supplies or go on bombing missions and to add yet more choice in the hanger.

Unfortunately I cant see it happening............... my Father flew in one.

Brit flight engineers were asigned to RCAF Halifax squadrons in 44 as the canadians had no trained engineers of there own...........

he was with 408 Goose......... until they went back to Lancs.

The Halifax would bring almost nothing to AH in practicale terms.  At least the B-24 is a bit different than the B-17, but the Halifax is only very slightly different than the Lancaster and in places where it differs it comes off the poorer for it.

In reality the Halifax was easier to bail out of, having about a third higher successful evacuation rate, but the Lancaster had about the same rate above the Halifax in making it home with battle damage.

How about the Stirling then?
Very big bomb-bay.

the lanc is the best for the job and i dont fell any need to have either the halibag or stirling in the game..i would welcome them though..
what is really needed is to get all the weapon options for the lanc sorted out.. that would  like haveing many new bombers

yep, the Lancaster would be given a new lease of life with a few additional weapons. Anything from incendiary bombs - a load of those drooped on a city or town would do massive damage if modelled well -  to the 22,000lb Grandslam. Tallboys dropped onto large ships would also be very effective.
