Title: Fightertown in Doughnut Map?
Post by: doc1kelley on October 13, 2005, 10:59:21 AM
I happened to be on when the doughnut map first appeared and just happened to be positioned at one of those fields that have now been called "FighterTown" and am bish.  I upped to be greeted by a set of B-24's with la7 escorts and they hit our base.  I don't remember if it was knit or Rook but they took the first strike initiative only minutes after the new map came online.  It didn't bother me a bit and there is NOTHING to indicate that it is a fighter only zone when one logs on.    If you want a "Fightertown" or "GVtown" area only on the maps, they should give you that message when you log on as they do with registration for scenerios and other information.  Don't squawk about it after somebody spoils your fun as like trash... One persons fun is another persons anguish or one persons trash is another persons gold.  I was not present during the incident in question but from all the message board flak, I would say that some had some fun and some got a few pounds of anguish or even downright anger.  The object of this game is NOT to capture fields, win the map, or even kill other players, it's to have fun doing those things.  I see personal attacks, folks calling other players idiots but not much in the way of anything constructive in formulating a solution that would please all those involved.  Folks have stated that it could have the map rooms removed to make them uncapturable or have them become able to withstand the greatest amount of damage and survive but that would require some program changes.  I believe that the easiest solution is to have a message upon entry of the game identifying those "special areas" and then the community can address those who violate the spirit of those areas themselves

All the Best...

---- Stepping on the soapbox ----

I can't speak for everyone and I haven't been online a whole lot but I'll put my 2-cents worth in anyways:D

I know AH is by NO means the same as Air Warrior was. We now have great graphics, awesome planes, so on and so on.

But the one thin AW DID have was a full fledged community spirit on and offline. It wouldn't take much for everyone to realize, it's a game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose but just the same, it's a game.

Players should win with grace and lose with grace.

None of this::furious and none of this:cry

and none of this when you win::rofl (It's not very nice to degrade someone)

As in any game, I follow the rules and if certain maps are made with certain rules then I follow them if it is posted that those are the specific rules for that map.

That's my 2-cents worth. And once again we thank you for your support!

it's a game, a highly competitive game (for some anyway). various poepl wear various game faces.

butch up.

if you want all "thank you sir, may i have another display of your outstanding talent?"  then find a box sim with the approproate AI.

but no matter what, at least keep it clean - think of the children and all.

That's the biggest thing about a good strong community. Recognizing that there are people here of all ages.

what did air warrior cost a month?

was it like warbirds at $2 an hour?

AH was a different "community" when it was $30 a month and I am sure only the truly dedicated played wb at $2 an hour

it's simple

lower cost = more riff raff
higher cost = less

Yup, same as real life. The higher the cost of the home the less chance you live next door to trash.

To assume that only the poor are *******s is the height of arrogance. Just because you'll spend 30 a month on a video game, doesn't mean you're as charming, intelligent, and witty as your therapist says you are.

I can't agree with the cost=class bit. I saw a guy on lastnight degrading a guy who volunteered to help a guy with his PC, and bragging about how educated and well off he was. Sometimes the rich lost something along the way to the top.

If Hitech was to make 3 arenas, a high, middle, and lower class arena, based on the income of each player, each arena would still have its share of jerks and good people.

so you think WB at $2 an hour had as many punks as MA AH does at $15 a month?

I don't

If WarBirds is so freaking wonderful, a virtual utopian society among the savage hordes of the online gaming communities, how come you're here now, and not playing WB?

I am just stating a fact sir
by the way, wb isn't $2 an hour anymore ... :)

I can't agree with the cost=class scenerio. I grew up poor but starting working when I was 14. I'm 42 now and make a six figure income but I never forgot where I came from and my personality never changed. People that know me know me as fair and honest with a great sense of humor. I know people on welfare that are nicer than richer people. Once again, just my 2 cents :D

BTW AW was 9.95 a month unlimited play. Although it was a tight community it still doesn't hold a candle to AH as far as realism and playability. I can see a little friendly animosity between players. That's what makes the game FUN and enjoyable. But the people who do ruin it for the others are in an entirely different class that should be dealt with by the honest fun loving players out there.

ANother 2 cents.....Keep the change!:aok

I don't think you are Redtop and I'm sure there are a lot of people on here that think the same way. It's a shame though that the actions of a VERY few minority can upset Sooooooo many people. I have 3 boys I'm teaching how to play and they are excited but I don't know if I'm going to let them online yet until I've been on a while.:noid

Fool Please! Who you kidding?

There was a much higher ratio of unsavory characters back when AH cost a lapdance a month.

Noobs you know these cranky old malcontents, myself included, that post in the oclub almost every day for years? Well they constituted the population of the MA back in the day. There goes your riff raff.

You need to read where I said  "VERY few minority"

Hub I don't post on these boards much but when I read something like this I feel it warrants a response.  I can see how you took what Eagler said in that context, it is easy enough to do.  But I've known Eagler for 6 years+ through FA ect and I can say I'm pretty darn sure he didn't mean to say that to degrade people.

Facts are facts.  AW had less "bad attitude punks" in it because the cost prohibited more of the casual flight simmers and younger people that don't have the same passion for online flight as the enthusists do.  These enthusists tend to be of an older generation since we are talking about WWII prop planes and inturn tend to be more mature.  When I was 17 and playing video games (commodore 64) if I could have the online experience that AHII provides for .50 a day I'd prolly been a so called "young punk" because of my arrogance and cockyness.  I feel most younger guys get that in a competitive environment as part of growing up.  Putting $2 an hour would eliminate the younger more immature (especially socially) crowd and therefore leave less "punks"

Also I personally feel that with the poor parenting going on today people tend to respect others much less than just 10 years ago.  I know I've noticed a difference, have you?  Can you imagine what online gaming will be like in just 5 more years when more voice com is integrated into other online sims.  These "punks" are now having little "punks" that are gonna be a mess...hehehe (j/k)..(not really)

Anyhow...that's my 2 cents.  I do want to say again that Eagler is a class act and I'm sure he meant in no way to cut down lower income people.

Warmest Regards,

Higgins_Mskt

Well the way it sounded when you said "Fool Please" was that you think I'm saying a majority of them are the riff raff. From what I have seen so far, it's only a minority which for the most part means that AH is still enjoyable as a game and a community.

Contradicted your whole argument with this one sentence.

What?  I don't see that anywhere in my post?  Perhaps you should check your meds?  I fail to see anything in my response that even remotely deals with the "The Truce" WILL LIVE IN INFAMY, it served it's purpose beautifully statement, that you posted.
