Title: Help with P-47D noseart
Post by: oboe on October 13, 2005, 01:35:12 PM
Just doing some preliminary '47 skin research and one of the subjects I like is a bubble-top P-47D from the 527th FS, 86th FG.    This is a natural metal subject with red stripes on all the tail surfaces.   Aircraft ID number on the side is '88'.   It has noseart images on both sides, one side has Bugs Bunny with the caption "RABBIT", and the other I suspect is Daffy Duck but I don't have any complete views of it.   The 86th served in Italy later in the War.

Can anyone help out?

Thanks!

Are you *sure* there's a different image on the other side? Seems every other person out there who's skinned it for other games have simply put the same thing on both sides.

Fairly positive of the different art. David Donald's book "American Warplanes of WWII" has a large 3-view drawing of it, and on the top-down view, its evident the top of the nose art is different on each side.

Superscale put out a 48th scale set of decals on it, but I can't find any reference to the decals except a sold out entry under Hannants.

SS48657 is the decal sheet's code. If you can find that it might give you some help.

Wait, are you saying this aircraft has been skinned before in other games?

CFS, IL2, WB3, to name a few. However everybody else just put Bugs on both sides. It seems they didn't have the reference you have, so I wouldn't trust them 100%.
