I can't make out the name on the side of the fuselage just forward of the wind screen... What does it say?

East India Squadron

it looks awesome!!!
ty greebo airmess and superfly

Based on classic photos of Johnny Kent flying that 92 Squadron early Spit Vb. Seems like thats a converted Mark I or II if memory serves.
I noticed in the cockpit shot it still shows 240 cannon rounds, even though 120 would have been what the Spit Vb carried.
Is it still the armament of a Vc in the body of a Vb?

Guppy.. is it just me, or do the nose contours look off to you?

The cockpit frames are too thin.

No its not. the cockpit screenshot is ZOOMED back so you can see the whole spitfire cockpit area.

The cockpit frames are fine. Thank God the new 51s and Spits haven't continued the too-thick-frame look of the FWs. Hopefully some day the FW frames will also be returned to a thinner standard of appearance.
If you really must have thicker cockpit frames, I suggest adding some masking tape to your glasses, in order to obtain the desired effect.

Another nice one, thanks guys at HTC.

From that angle it looks way off. Way too boxy around the prop and too much of the upper cowl bulged out to make it look almost like it's covering a Griffon.
Compare to the real deal

Would be nice if we got the older style elevator on the I and V now.
As far as cockpits I think they look fine when the gamma is set properly in game, they are dark because of the screenshots.

"No its not."
Oh yes, it is.

Judging from the numerous c-pit fotos that is closest to real one.

The 190s cockpit is fine, ty. Lets get the other ones as good.

Oh no! They modeled the propella upsidedown!! :O

No you dweeb, the prop rotates!
What they modeled wrong was the camera angle relative to the ground! I mean LOOK at it, it's all ... ANGLED and shyte!!!

Hey where is the rear view mirror?

I will check the nose with my sources. I notice that the pic you posted has a De Havilland prop, whereas our version uses the Rotol. But I'm not sure that makes a difference. It could be just the odd angle, but it could also be that I messed up. :)
Btw, the cockpit rails are exactly the same width as the current AH rails with the exception of being more rounded and accurate. You are being thrown off by the field of view and the eyepoint looking down into the cockpit.
I really don't know what you guys are referring to on the elevators. Please explain.

I think the comment about the elevator refers to the use of the later elevator with the extended elevator balance. Note on the first image that there is only one angle on the end of the elevator and on the bottom image it extends further forward and two angles on the end.

i know. this is not very big difference, but spitfire versions had only small differences ;) and ofcource spit mk5 with wing type b have only 60 shells per cannon not 120 :furious
greetings

ah, ok I got it. I will make the necessary changes. Also, I've modified the nose bulge as it was definitely too big at the back end of the engine.
ps. Don't pay attention to the ammo counters in these preview screenshots, as they are usually incorrect.
-
superfly, it may just be the picture you posted and the angle it was taken, but the underside of the nose looks slightly odd too?

Yep, there isn't the sweeping curve but more of a straight edge to the underside of the cowl if the picture is accurate.

I'm sorry but wazzat sMurf?
The framing for armoured windscreen is wider at the top (first link) and the vertical bars are slightly too thin and in wrong angle. Also the overall profile of the cockpit is slightly too high. The armoured part is also thicker than it seems at present model. It is pretty close, all right, and I'm sure Spitdrivers appreciate the good view from c-pit but IRL it was not that good.

You cannot really see much between the armour and top part of the frame.

See.... Real pictures.
I could draw a picture and say its exactly like the real thing too... Which is what I meant about your example. Just because some other sim has it different, doesnt make it right...Or wrong for that mater.
-
Sry bout that Morph. A misunderstanding on my part. I don't have any public disk space to host pics but you will find a few relevant pics at your site from the folder under name morton.

is that you? I just got an email saying you registerd... Would you mind if I change your name in there to your AH BB handle? Helps me to keep track of things.
btw, put all the pics you want on there. no porn of course. but feel free to use it as you wish. that's what its there for.
-
Charge,
So what you are saying is that the current AH Spit's cockpit framing is too thin, right? Not just the new ones. I want to be perfectly clear on your position here.
All three of those Spit cockpit shots show the armor's windscreen from the side which is obviously going to make it appear to be thicker.
-
SUPERFLY, thanks for doing that, we really appreciate the time to detail you guys are putting in. Those are great models.
PS, when you get to the Seafire III, note that it had the LATER Spit IX-XIV style Elevator as well, not the earlier one as on the Seafire II/Spit V.

When you take a look at the Spit14 screenies, the cockpit view is default head position this time. To me the cockpit bars look no different in size than the current ones.
I of course dont know if *those* are correct, but im sure someone knows...
-
Go ahead and change it Morph.
Can I somehow put a link here so that others could see those pics aswell?

"So what you are saying is that the current AH Spit's cockpit framing is too thin, right?"
Yes, but I have only studied the ones with internal armour so I cannot comment on Spit 1 or Spit 5 with external armour.

Well, I took a screenshot of AH's Spit XIV cockpit from as close to the same angle and distance as your closed cockpit shot to compare. Now I couldn't quite match the angle because I couldn't get close enough, but the armor section may be a little too thin when viewed from the side. On the other hand the framing at the front of the bubble may be a little too thick in AH.
It is pretty close in any case.
The closed shot you posted also has some unknown item attached to the inside of the cockpit under the mirror. I am not sure what it is, but it makes the visibility look worse than it is. Other Spit cockpit shots lack that thing, so it isn't something that should be there so far as I know.
-
That is the opening lever for canopy so it is only visible in pictures with closed canopy.

-
This is a rather good picture of the framing.
