Title: Compare the game
Post by: Jethro_Bodine on October 14, 2005, 10:54:46 PM
Hello I'm very new here as you can see this is my first post. I'm very very interested in WWII flight sims and a WWII MMOG flight sim seems like the best thing in the world to me but I have to know a few things if anyone is able to help me out..

First I was wondering if anyone could compare the game with IL2 forgotten battles.

How do the graphics compare?
also how do the physics compare.

IL2 was the best WWII FS game I have ever plade so if this game isn't that bad then I'm thinking of trying it out and paying the monthly fee.

Thanks in advance.

You get 2 free weeks to play Aces High.

Sign up, create a handle. That way you can decide on your own before commiting to anything.

Or, you can create an account on go to the H2H rooms and get a feel for the game before you use up your free 2 weeks.  Or so I think...

Yeah but I'm at work right now and for the next 6 hours. I stumbled across this on accident and about had to change my pants when I first saw this so I can't wait that long lol :O so I'm just wondering how the physics and graphics are.

Graphically I have to give the nod to IL2, but the gap is getting smaller with every update.  Gameplay-wise there is absoloutely no comparison, AH2 will consume your soul.  Welcome to the addiction.

:O :aok  YYYYAAAAAAAAYYYYY that's what I needed. can't wait to get home and spend the rest of my 24 hours on the computer. woo hoo.

What Heretik said.  Il2 has better eye candy, but when you get in there with 300-600 players it doesn't matter.

More questions.

(I know I know try the darn game but hopefully someone is bored like me that can answer the questions).

Stalls: On takeoff if you pull back too hard "will" you stall and crash.

Takeoff: do you have to use your flaps and the "runway" like in IL2 you could cross the grass bumping around until your in the air when vulchers were around? (i didn't like that)

View: while in combat are you only able to use cockpit view or can you pass the cockpit view and have makeshift crosshairs for an easier shot? (I didn't like that either)

Yes, you will stall if airspeed is too low.

Takeoff: do you have to use your flaps and the "runway" like in IL2 you could cross the grass bumping around until your in the air when vulchers were around? (i didn't like that)

You can bump around on the grass, but unlike Il2, there are hangers and things that will get in your way before you really get the chance to get in the air.  Staying on the runway is recommended.

View: while in combat are you only able to use cockpit view or can you pass the cockpit view and have makeshift crosshairs for an easier shot? (I didn't like that either)

You are always in cockpit in a fighter.  Only bombers have an external view.  You do have a zoom function that can get you a clearer sight picture, but its an on/off thing unlike Il2 where you can control the amount of zoom.

There are the [ and ] keys which physically move your head position, but are not the same as the zoom.

The game is the best of all the ww2 mmpol games by far. anyone here will tell you that. the FM is as real as you can get and still play a computer game. Stall a plane out in real life and stall it out in here, they're both going to do the same thing. You arent going to be tossed about in your chair while stalling out in the game, but the plane does the same thing as it will do irl.

The guys here who play are among the best in sims. Lots of ball breaking, some fighting, more ball breaking, and  thensome more fighting (in planes of course). Many of us know eachother on a first name basis, Jaxxo ended up marrying Hub as a mater of fact. :O Superdud, and Megadud (both players) are actually brother and sister. So its one big happy family really.

You'll like it.

I'm most likely going to use the same name I have here if it's not taken but I'm going to be looking for instant action and shootin people down. I gurantee you that I will be on most of your 6's crossin ya with lead.

can't wait.

also does this game have it's own voice thingy or do you have to use team speak or something?

http://www.netaces.org    has one page print out for key/dot commands  , plus tons of other stuff ah related

the adv of AH over il2 is the more user freindly/get into the battle quicker flight experience .  along with over 500 players in the main arena .. shure its not quite gunho realistic as for mixture, cooler flaps , and super actuall cockpit setup .. but the Flight model is very close to realistic and the graphics will suprise you .

We also have senario's and other events that go on .

8 character name minimun, FYI.

I will guarantee that 99.9% of the time someone will be on.  That other .1% is held for when the server crashes (VERY rare) or other freak things like that.

Mitsu's Sounds (http://park1.wakwak.com/~mitsu/ah2_stuff/msc_203full.zip)

Waffle has some great gunsights to download but his site is down Ill see if I can get them up on a geocities site for you.

When I DL those when I get home do they auto load in the spot they need to be in or do I have to extract them to the appropiate places cuase I'm not too good at doing that.
Title: Compare the game
Post by: Larry on October 15, 2005, 12:37:46 AM
Just make them download to desktop then:

Go to "My Computer"
"Local Disk (C: )"
"Program Files"
"HTC"
"Aces High II"

Then copy them from your desktop to that last folder and replace the old sounds, sights, skins. and youll be ready to play. You dont have to install these but the default sounds and sights suck. The skins auto download when you play the game but if you DL the package from here you get them right away instead of them one by one for hours.

Nice pics. I see the graphics difference from the newer games and this but from the cockpit view, there isn't going to be much of a notice. Looks like a fun game and I should be playing in about 5 hours.

Those are nice.

Is anything in the cockpit interactive, as in pressing buttons with your mouse will start the engine and the like?
Title: Compare the game
Post by: Larry on October 15, 2005, 02:13:06 AM
No the E button starts the engine. Only thing different about the old and the remodeled cockpits is they updated the detail of the dails and  put in moving stick, rudder, RPM, and throttle.

I think that a new game eng is inevitable, how far into the future is unknown at this point.
I think to be fully sucessful and "keep with the times" HTC will have to look at newer engines and the such.

Welcome aboard if you decide to stay

the engine they currently used has not even come close to being maxed out.

really, they just getin' started w/ it.  it's only a year, year 1/2 old ish.

the BEST computer on the market today can't run AH2 in it's current form with all options, detail all the way up.

so.... all in all, AH not bad at all.

less eyecandy than some, MUCH better flight model than all.

yup, welcome aboard. i suggest that you spend a while in the training arena, where there will always be someone around to help. and in response to one of your questions, yes, AH has a built in radio comms function, you can speak using mic to people in your immediate area, or to people tuned to your radio channel at the same time.

and yeah, welcome to AH. if you have a wife, be prepared, you aint never gonna want to go anywhere again :D

have fun! if you see me around (Pooface) give me a shout. and another suggestion would be not to go straight to the main arena. more action definitely, but youll have to fly longer to get to it, and you wont learn much. like i said, try the training arena first for some good tips

Actually, think there is already 2 or 3 people in the process of writing articles on attacking Bombers,, articles on dive bombing, articles on GV assaults, articles on Ship & shore Battery Guns etc.... They should be out very soon. To add IF anyone has any articles they have written, please email them to me at TequilaChaser(@)flyaceshigh.com      Thank You

as for Training,

Jethro, feel free to drop us an email at Trainers(@)hitechcreations.com  or Trainers(@)flyaceshigh.com

this way the whole Training team will get it and you will get a response quickly if you need help with anything.

and Welcome to Aces High II

I would sure hope htc would build training videos and make a more intersting help file.

Also intersting a section about weapons where the ammo speed, kinetic and chemical impact power is listed for all the weapons. Seriously, if ah is lacking anything than its lack of comprehensive documentation, one that is in one piece.

I know there are tons of intersting articles on net aces, but much of the basic data is missing and not there.

Aircraft profiles with a short history of how many in service from when to when.
Aircraft performance with range/speed/fuel consumptio/wight/power.

Sure there are a lot of tables somewhere... but verry few hard data.

Also selecting aircraft in the hanger would be much nicer to see some tecnical data and history numbers about the ac to select.

this alone made AH preferable to il2, there are alot of things and even practical realism sacrificed in il2 for better graphics, which means less interactivity.  If you have track ir you will go ape #$@# over vector expansion, HTC did a nice job of   its integration.

Aces high is by far the most real feeling of flying and shooting at the same time i have ever found. add to that every single plane, vehical and boat is controled by a person in the world somewhere.

we even get to run round with a pistol when we eject, wont belong before we get para raids to capture the town with infantry modeled....:aok

then Aceshigh will be the best historic war game of all time.

its already the best allround video game ive ever played. nothing else has hooked me for more than a few months. IL2 was boring in days, even with no icons and hardest opponents. and the flight model of IL2 is rubbish compared.

it matters not if AH2 is totaly acurate to life or not, but it has its definite boundries and performances for each plane that reamin a constant, you know your opponents.

well......i could go on...

yeah, thats what i love about it, its never the same, which means its very hard to get bored of. the thing is, that aces high has the opportunity to be the no.1 pc game of all time, everyone loves it, its just that its so underground. i mean, most of us all found out about it just snooping around the back alleys of the net. if AH had a little more publicity, itd be a world wide phenominon
