B-52?
-
I will name it..."Tired"
-
Both are correct. :-) It's a B52D, and it is retired.
-
What gave it away to me was the Ejection Seat Carriages (B52s use an ejectable rail system)
And that little black dial aft of the throttles. That's the "crab dial" do to speak.....changes the Yaw of the Buff on approach to compinsate for cross wind. Not to many 8 engined planes out there nowadays.
-
The first thing that caught my eye were the nuke detonation flash shields.

I don't think they are nuke detonation screens. I believe them to be Sunlight Mirrors. Like those placed in car windows.
-
those just look like solar screens you use when you park your car. The 52 does have fold down colored (green/red) screens that help sheild sunlight and such. On the windows they have actual curtains to help from nuke flashes.
-
for just a brief moment I thought I saw Slim Pickens in a flight suit wearing a cowby hat.......checking the contents of the evade and escape kit.....

Here's another photo

I like how they labelled the control yoke just in case the crew forgot what plane they were flying and needed to come up with an answer in a hurry. You'd think they'd put something important there instead, like guard frequency or a reminder to close your flightplan...
-
The thing that nailed it for me, were the eight sets of engine guages and the throttles...
That and windscreen shape screams Boeing....
-
Yeah, on second look they screens are a bit aftermarket.

would make the ultimate simpit.
-
It looks like it's in pretty rough shape.

It's 50 years old.

Actually the dial changes the direction of the landing gear so they will line up with the runway even if the plane is crabbing due to a cross-wind.

Would you beleive most of the "G" models are just as old and going through their "mid-life" upgrade. Yup it's good for another 50 years!

Quite a bit of dirt/dust buildup on the panels and some removed gauges... Otherwise it could probably be made flyable in a long weekend ;)

Flyable...yes.....flyable safely no way in hell in a long weekend. I'd say 2 weeks minimum ;)
IIRC flyable storage A/C are required to be able to be spun up in less than a month.
