Nice to see the new Spit IX

Here's what it looked like at Duxford on Sunday. Misty day, last Air Show of the year.

Ray Hanna on the stick.

Hey, Fox, nice seeing you with your incredible images again.
Tell me, if you know,  what Duxford event is the best next year. Planning to pull some friends with me over to there.
Maybe we meet up ;)

Nice pic Foxy. :)
What's the Spit in the background - late XIV, Mk 22 ??
Teardrop Spits best looking piston planes built imo.

Regards.

It's got a Merlin so I'd guess it is a Mk XVIe.  Are there any flying bubble top Mk IXs left?

Hi Angus

Thanks for the comments. Don't get much time to fly these days (more time spent on photography), but always enjoy AH when I do.

If you are thinking of coming over for a show at Duxford, I would suggest you come for Flying Legends. It is probably the biggest airshow of the the lot and I will certainly be going again in 06.

I will get dates as soon as they are confirmed and see if there is anything else running on the same weekend. Maybe something at Shuttleworth (private collection - mainly inter-war years but also a Sea Hurricane and a Spit 5)

Always be pleased to meet up when you are over.

Regards

Hi Whisky58

It's a MkXIV flown by Cliff Spink (Ex Air Vice Marshall and an old friend of Ray & Mark Hanna) He is also the pilot of the F86 Sabre owned by the Golden Apple Trust (who also own the T33)

Both Ray Hanna and Cliff Spink flew an impeccable close formation duo routine while the other 5 Spits batted around with a tail chase.

All typical Duxford and all great fun !!

Cheers

Bubble top is a Spit LFXVIe TD248, late of Historic Flying Limited but now sold to a private owner.  It used to wear the silver and red scheme.  Now it's in 2 TAF markings.

It's a pretty bird either way :)

All this nice expensive digital gear at home and 0 airshows this year.. My own fault.

Let's see if 2006 brings more time (and less concerts) to go to the UK and visit all those wonderful places again.

AH'ers on the flying legends next year - sounds good. How about planning and plotting when the time gets nearer?
The Hendon museum is also worth a visit, - but staying in London always tends to be a bit expensive. Better plan well ahead.
