If you haven’t played with Google Earth, do it. It’s a free download. http://earth.google.com/
Mapquest and Google Maps are fun programs and are easy to use, but they are driving a Model T. Google Earth is like a Ferrari. I know that I have just begun to explore what can be done with this program. The ability to place markers wherever you want is super cool. This weekend I marked the 30 places that I have lived in Alaska, Hawaii, Colorado and Ohio. Placemarks can be clicked to show written details, pictures and hyperlinks. I’m sure that there must be a million better things to see on Google Earth than where I have lived, but if you want to check it out just click: http://www.wwiirt.com/halls/where_i_lived/where_i_have_lived.kmz it’s a .kmz file. If you have installed Google Earth you will have to unzip it, and then click on it. It’s a whopping 6.64 kb.
Be sure to play with Google Earth’s layers: roads, borders, 3D terrain, buildings, etc. The search feature is great, if you can spell what you are looking for. It has a measuring tool and gives driving directions.

I was looking at satelite map programs about 6 months ago. I got a free trial version of one that lasted 5 days, or something. The actual program price for the full version was something like 2 thousand dollars, if I recall. It was called Keyhole.
The is the exact same program that Google now offeres for free.

Well... I'm boycotting Wal-Mart, but Google is still okay with me. ;)
