well, we all stay here and play and post so there must be something.
some of us enjoy socialising with internet and real life friends here.
some enjoy swapping flying techniques and experiences.
some just like to play games and never post anything serious.
some use it to contanct and organise real life and in game activities.
for me it's a good place to exchange views and opinions from around the world, and to have a joke and meet my friends from the squad and game itself. And of course, to do some dogfighting most of all.
Serious question here.....
What keeps you logging in to AH2 and posting on these boards?
-
Mostly its just a good way for me to see what is in the minds of my opponents and allies.
From time to time its a place for me to make a comment, but I'm rather opinionated so I try to keep that to a minimum as I normally end up ticking someone off and that really isn't my intent.
And sometimes just watching you guys fume at each other lets me laugh.
But once in a while, just every so often, Its all about the "O".
-
The boards (with the exception of the O'Club) makes me realize we are all more alike than we care to admit.
I log into the game for a few reasons; comraderie within my squad, seeing new and old friends, and (in scenarios) experiencing a taste of what happened during the period.
-
The banter on the boards tickles me.
Also there are a lot of fellers out there who seem to have a vast depth of knowledge about WW2 aviation. It's like dipping in to your favourite reference book.
Call me a simple northern country lad, but I still can't get my head around the fact that on-line there are hundreds of individuals, thousands of miles apart, engaging simultaneously in real-time, with computer models accurately rendering high speed dog fights, bullet tragectories etc etc.
How do they do that ?? :D
-
We band of brothers, we happy few.
For all of our differences, and yes they are many. Still we are more alike than any of my real life brothers. You all understand a part of me that no one else ever has, ever tried, or ever could. Indeed logging into Aces High is like going home.
Yeah ok so laz is still sniping at the bombers, the strat guys still not happy with the furballers. But underneath it all, we understand each other.
We are indeed like a big family, and everyone knows big familys have their share of fights. But they have their share of good times too. We just need to remember that everyone deals with frustration and anger. No need for us to add ours to their pile. Everyone has enough & then some to go around.
Share the good stuff, and there is lots of good stuff to share.
We all tend to take this a bit more serious than perhaps we should.
I understand, this is our life! This is what and who we are.
And yet we need to step back, outside of that view and take a long look.
Did I really just get that bent out of shape because I died in a game?????
This is an online flight sim folks, EVERYONE DIES!
Even God himself dies regularly in here. So why the anguish?
-
Makes me feel like a tough guy!
-
For me, its kinda like riding the Subway in New York city. Because whenever I have a bad day, all I had to do was take a ride a few stations, and invariably there would be a guy playing with himself singing 'happy days are here again'. After that, I feel much better.
Kinda get it?
-
not been flying hardly at all for the past 2 years. i peek in now and again (it's one of those "again times") to hopefully read what some folks i've known and flown with are up to. and also hopefully, get a little vicarious enjoyment from the posts.
pretty much that's it. shared enjoyable experiences seem to grow when talked about, so it is with aces high.

I like to shoot hub down and then drink a toast to his death with 15 year old scotch.:p

lack of anything more diverse on the internet that i have a connection to.
i hate "diversity" mostly like being forced to learn it in college, but here it is fun to read the back and forth of almost ANY topic in the world.
other boards i have gone to either are WAY outta hand as far as language / pictures for work, or tighter than a nun's booty as far as "off topic" dicissuion. they lock / delete anything that has a word that is not about whatever game / thing they are talking about.
to be honest this is the ultimate board i have ever seen.
the oclub is just that. TOTALLY off topic, almost anything can be seen there any given day.
the other forums are real good about policing themselves.
also i have met alot of these people in real life at the CON's and it is fun to say hi and stuff.
i only wish we could cuss now and again, though i know it would get groosly out of hand really quick :rofl
-
I come for the sheer amount of information I get. I've learned so much on such a diversity of topics.
I also love to read the opinions of people from all over the world who see things a little different than the people I see day after day in RL.
A day without the O'Club is like a day without sunshine.
-
In a positive way it re inforces the qualities of the game. learning, squad play, team environment. In the negative. The occasional BK TROLLS;) :rofl
-
I'm here because the sun never sets, and the fish are always biting.
-
ammuse me a little. but mostly nothing

Totally.... As much as some of us cant stand others in game... if they were on our side they would be a welcomed addition..
Part of the fun is the challenge of the opponents and the relationships with the squaddies....

Here's my take on it. I'm for the knowledge and entertainment. I enjoy the company. The S/N ratio is still reasonable. I bet most of you even know what a S/N ratio is. Most internet forum users probably think it's a sexual preferance or something.
I mean, we have some true fountains of knowledge here. It is simply the best source for WWII aircraft information on the internet. Bar none. Even the best WWII aircraft websites have nothing compared to our Aircraft and Vehicles forum. Want to know where the shell ejection ports on a 109E are? You will have your answer in less than 24 hours. We have some great authors and true gurus who frequent these boards. For whatever reason, we have managed to maintain just enough maturity to not drive them off.
I participate in numerous 'cycling forums on the net. I have many friends high up in the 'cycling world, both engineers/designers or world record holding athletes. By and large if they once participated in internet forums, they do so no longer. Nothing like holding a world record and having some internet expert telling you why your training or equipment or whatever is wrong. Nevermind your credentials, they are always right. It gets quite exasperating and after a while it is simply not worth the time and energy trying to correct all the mis-information slung about.
I'm going to make a horribley biased and stereotypical statement here. In my experience, airplane people are just "cooler" than the average joe, smarter too. When I was 12 years old I would listen with rapt attention to the old guys in my R/C airplane club telling stories about WWII, working at Lockheed, etc... Very few topics can bridge a gap like that. I can walk out to the airport here and strike up a friendly conversation with anyone out there. I took a glider lesson from Hod Anderson at Minden Airport, CA. The man was 85 years old, had over 30,000 hours logged, flew combat missions in P-38's in WWII. I made him sign my shirt :) I don't profess to know the how or why, I just like airplane people better than the average population.
So I guess that's a compliment to pretty much anyone who reads this. By definition you must be an airplane person. Airplane people are cool.

Well, this explains the dry spell. I try to explain that before I stopped flying for 6 months and lost my old account I was much more studly..... But then I kinda drift off to sleep, they leave and I wake up with a shot glass on the nightstand.

Its not hard to find FokerFoder!
DIG a little deeper in the well son, dig a little deeper in the well.
If you want a nice cool drink of water you have to dig a little deeper in the well.

As a sub-clinical psychopath, I was kinda hoping to find some empathy (not sympathy) in the Aces High community.
This is the virtual world in which the Mr. Hyde in me can fully emerge from the day to day Dr. Jeykl.
I seek not enlightenment, but a good vulch, or cherry pick, or gang-bang, or.... (Fodder's eyes start to glaze over, and spittle starts to form at the corner of his mouth).
I think I need to get off this BBS and into the MA, my primordial needs are overcoming me :)

what i like about the bbs is
1. some people do have a good personality and general interest in what AH is about..
2. i like the way some of us try to enhance the game by making skins. pass our individual knowlege about freely..
what i dislike about the bbs is..
1. the O club.. what a waste of time that is//
2. hijackers... lowest of the low
3 lack of HTC input into the topics..
4.personal attacks of memebers..there are people who i dislike . but i would never slander them on the bbs..
-
What does it do for me?
1. See Rule #4
2. See Rule #5
3. See Rule #6
4. See Rule #8
5. See Rule #13
6. See Rule #15
7. See Rule #4 AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN
8. See Rule #14
And in conclusion, this sums up my recent community and message board experience.
Thank you for this opportunity to express myself.

I really enjoyed your post g00b!
My reasons for playing are the same as most others.
Squad, Frendship, Virtually flying all the cool aircraft, historic reinactments.
And the answer to the $10,000,000 question at hand....Signal/Noise.
Now if I just had that range squelch function we could get that lowered a bit!:aok
-
Because my squad lets me be the youngest.....and they make fun of me for it.
Because my squad lets me go completely insane over a virtual kill
It makes me happy to shoot stuff.
I have no life
:)

It gives me somethign to do while whaiting for the servers to come back up. Like NOW. Dang.. I was in 6 fights, had 5 kills and as I dead sticked my broken plane with bad pilot wound to a halt, just as I was going to tower.. POOF. So here I am ranting about it. .. Ok Ill hek maybe its back up again.. later.

dont judge me as a degrader if Im able to admit it :)
