Okay, I have to nibble: I;m in 100% agreement with the analysis of the UN as this columnist portrays:
In this period we are also witnessing an increasing disenchantment with the UN.
"We have unpleasant scandals, such as the "food-for-oil" affair, concerning the UN role in arranging sale of Iraqi oil in the period leading up to the war in March 2003," says Trifkovic. "Most recently we have witnessed the inability of the General Assembly to agree on something that is very important to the Western World and the USA in particular. This is a generally accepted definition of terrorism, one that would serve as the basis for both legal and practical measures to be used in countering it."
Trifkovic believes that "the UN would need to reform itself administratively and culturally. The culture of a bloated bureaucracy misusing financial resources, that came to light with the commission led by the former US Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, needs to be uprooted. The UN would need to think in terms of the realities of the post-Cold War. The niceties of the legal order under which the world organization had functioned during the Cold War and the supreme role of the Security Council have been undermined in the extreme."
The UN Is Not Really Needed
"The UN has outlived its usefulness and has nothing to contribute to an increasingly complex globalized world. The best we can hope for is the emergence of a multi-polar world in which new centers of regional power such as China, India and Russo-China alliance, an increasingly united Europe that will possibly transcend the boundaries of the European Union and so would act as geopolitical counterbalances to the American predominance. That is a far more feasible path of making the world normal again than expecting that the UN will somehow get its act together and become a coherent and well-managed organization.
The UN, far from providing the framework for the legality and violence-free conduct of international relations, is simply reflecting the realities of power-politics in the contemporary world. It is but a pale reflection of the realities out there in the real world. It is not really needed and no tears would be shed over its disappearance," concludes Dr. Srdja Trifkovic.

I think the UN needs to sort this whole Russia/Norway fishing trawler thing out before it degenerates into bearded sailors throwing herrings at each other!

Hundreds of thousands of Rwandans are singing happy birthday from their graves.
After Germany's loss in World War I, the protectorate was taken over by Belgium with a League of Nations mandate.
After World War II Rwanda became a UN trust territory with Belgium as the administrative authority.
In 1994 the military and militia groups killed approximately 1,000,000 Tutsis and Hutu moderates in the Rwandan Genocide.
Despite intelligence provided before the killing began, and international news media coverage reflecting the true scale of violence as the genocide unfolded, virtually all first-world countries declined to intervene, and the United Nations refused to authorize its peacekeeping operation in Rwanda at the time, led by General Roméo Dallaire, to take positive action to bring the killing to a halt.

The world is always normal. It is our expectations that the abnormal should occur that need adjusting.

60 years of unpaid parking tickets... time to evict em and send em to ice bear country.
Having em hedquartered in the U.S. lends a legitemacy to them that they don't deserve.
