Looks nice...good job all.
How much this lil puppy gonnacost I wonder:confused:
-
Bah, spits.
:D
Looks sweet wtfg guys!
Can anyone post performance data for it?
-
My new ride is here :O
Wonder what Kev's thoughts are on the perking??? ;)
Kev this thing will turn like a hurri 1, climb like a 163, outrun the Tempest, and outgun anything right??
LOL
-
wooooooooooooooooot! yay! new spit!! hooray!!! i can't wait to get it!
-
superb job!
very very nice.
-
Anyone know anything about it? I sure don't.
-
Well.. should be like a Spit IX crossed with a Ki-84 with better climb and faster low down.

Nothing, it's just spit IX with Packard engine. No reason to perk it.
-
Be afraid...be very afraid. ;)
Looks sweet, and it can be either a IXe or a XVIe for events and ToD.
Nice job HTC.
As for "what is a XVI"?
Its essentially a Spit LF IXe with a Merlin 266 engine. Think improved Spit IX (faster down low, better climb). Clipped wing, E armament (50 cals +20mm), 3 hard points for ord, "broad chord" rudder.
A Spit LF IXe and a Spit XVIe are essentially the same a/c. The XVI has the US built Merlin 66 (Merlin 266).
IXe and XVIe made up a large part of the 44-45 RAF/RCAFs Spitfire force as a med/low alt fighter and fighter-bomber.

:O :O :O :O :O
-
Great job fellers - but sadly no tear-drop canopy.
Sigh.
:)
-
It looks very nice, for a butched Spitfire that has had it's poor wings mutilated. :p
Now I will just hold on and hope for a Spitfire LF.Mk VIII so that I'll be able to fly a "real" Spit with good performance.

I was just going to say, very nice job...but I hate the clipped wings. Somehow it just isn't quite a spit with the wings hacked off.
-
P38G and a clipped Spit LFXVIe.
I think I'm in virtual flight sim heaven :)
Thanks for that beauty. Looks great.
-
Blah..just another target for my Tempest!
-
Its going to look awesome in D-Day stripes.
Some info on MK356 which was a LF IXe that flew with 443 Sqn RCAF:
http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/fighters.html
-
It looks real good, all the Spitfires do. What is next Seafire Mk III? Or Spitfire LF.VIII?
Congrats to the modeler and skinner...
-
I hate invasion stripes. I hate invasion stripes with a passion.
Btw, the Pink Spit 9 and the Blue Spit 5 better be the first planes skinned.
-
for some reason, it looks quite a bit like a hurricane to me?
-
its undermodelled!

Wondering how many bottles of scotch it would take to get HT to model the Mk XII. If all us spit fans chip in who knows.
Also thought the tail wheel was retractable in the Mk XVI

Well thats the joy of skins, there are lots to choose from. I like D-Day stripes on some a/c, but not on every single scheme, no. Historically the IXes had them so thats why I would like to see it.
-
No, the Spit XVI is just a Spit IX which is a development of the Mk V's airframe.
The Spitfire Mk VIII introduced things like retractable tail wheels and shortened ailerons. The Mk XIV, XVIII and XIX are developments of the Mk VIII airframe. The Spitfire F.21 was a major redesign of the Spitfire and all Spitfires and Seafires above Mk 21 are based, in part at least, off the F.21.
-
Karnak thank you for clearing that up about the MK XVI.
Now I realy want the Mk VIII. It just seems rite to have the transitions in airframes to the Mk XIV.

Yep looks really good on homepage.
How bout puting it in the game?
-
looks to me the rudder needs some work...
in pictures you guys show, the rudder is flat at the trailing edge.
on htc homepage, it is not...
so which is right for the HTC version?
-
Every photo I have of the Mk XVI shows the rudder to be curved as SUPERFLY made it on AH's Mk XVI.

Oddly enough, I am 100% with you on this one. Add the light blue IX skin as #3 on the list.
-
Personally, I think all the similar schemes for the spits get old. I like the blue, the pink, and the non-standard schemes (i.e. the sand/brown for the SpitV) but if you just have grey/green and different number codes, ya only need 2 of those (1 with, 1 without invasion stripes). After that it gets old, fast. I ran out of interesting 190a5 skins for the same reason. Superficially different details but the rest of the scheme is the same :(
-
That is one reason we really want the Mk VIII Krusty. It has the widest variety of camo schemes of any Spitfire Mk. North Africa, Pacific, USAAF, RAF, RAAF, ect, ect....
-
*Beautiful* model and skin! WTG HTC!
-
Looks wonderful good job guys more British planes the better....

For all us newbies ^^^^^^^^^ lol , what number is this ?
-
The Mk. 16E... Anywho, it looks intersting, a Mk9 with clipped wings, new rudder, packard engine and .50 cals with 20mm... Sounds good to me! :-)
Edward
PS do wish it had the tear drop cockpit! ::Sniffles::

OK let's clarify for everyone what you are looking at with the Spit LFXVIe
It's the same fuselage, wing, armament of the late war LFIXe but has the American built Packard Merlin 266 instead of the Rolls Royce Merlin 66 of the LFIXe.
First image is of the actual Spit 16 that the AH Spit is skinned as. It's Spitfire LFXVIe TB476 21-D of 443 "Hornet" squadron RCAF, flown by S/L Art Sager in April 1945.
Clipped E wing, tall broad chord rudder, fixed tail wheel, wing racks along with a centerline hard point for bomb or drop tank.
Second image is of a Spitfire LFIXe PT961 that flew with 126 squadron in combat after this production photo was taken.
Note the clipped E wing, fixed tail wheel, bomb racks on the wing etc. All the same as the LFXVIe except this bird has the earlier rudder version.
Hah! Its not the same! The rudder is different! But hold on a sec. The late build IXes also could have that tail too as the image below clearly shows. These are a bit more rare as they are HFIXes of 124 squadron, but note they all have the same rudder as the image of the LFXVIe. ON-B is serial PV303 in case the serial number junkies want to double check that it's an IX with a tall tail.
And just for fun, here's a clipped LFVIII with the Universal wing and retractable tail wheel, short span ailerons and Merlin 66
(http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/810_1119289346_clippedviii.jpg)
And last but not least, my favorite Spit, the XII that had that tall tail and clipped wing, way back in February of 43 when 41 Squadron began to convert to them.

It's no Hurricane, but that's one damned fine looking aircraft.
-
"Hah! Its not the same! The rudder is different! But hold on a sec. The late build IXes also could have that tail too as the image below clearly shows."
Guppy, you have been warned about confusing the children.
Stop that ;)

I could really mess em up and point out that the XII has the early style elevators of the Spit I-V too! Heaven forbid a tall tail on an early tailplane that has retractable tail wheel! Then there is the photo out there of the Spit V trop with the pointed rudder as well. Will it never end! :)
Stop that Ramzey! High back XVI's look better! :)

So guys, whats the deal with this "broad chord rudder" it look pukka, but why was it installed in the 1st place ? & the whole , "what plane looks better Supermaine Spitfire or American P51 Mustang " has just been totaly decided now that I have seen the pics of the new Mk 16, with the brod chord rudder & the cliped wings, dam, that is one fine looking plane, BTW Thanks for sharing them guppy. :O Also are they going the use the 150 octain fuel in the Mk16 that I have read so much about in the other posts :D
P.S My final view, why are they using an American Packard engine, now I know how you guys must fill with A British Merlin in your P51D. :cry

Hah! Its not the same! The rudder is different! [/img]
Also features distinctive large vegetable mounted on vertical stick forward of rudder, which aids identification.
Hitech haven't modelled this.

Hate to break it to ya but that was an American made Packard Merlin in the Mustang too :)
Broad chord rudder on the Spit was added to take the increase in horsepower and torque of the later Merlins and Griffons.
Not a lot different then the fuselage being lengthened on the P40 or 190D9.

LOL
LOLOL, hardly.
Turn slightly worse than the current IX, roll better than it.
Climb better to 20k than current IX after which the current IX is better.
Still sub 400mph at all alts, although I've seen 406mph at 20k (ish) posted somewhere.
Will have 2x20mm and 2x.50 cals.
Perking - Yeah sure why not, it's a Spit after all.
Shoulda been done with a bubbletop, didn't affect performance :( .

I've looked at Spit 16's stats/capabilities.
Im betting Spit LF 16 will be a great match (but not "historical" match) to Ki-84. imo these planes are serious dogfighters with correct balance of speed, climb, agility, and firepower:)

Don't know if they ever ran into Ki84s but the RAF Spit VIII pilots in the CBI ran into Japanese fighters on more then one occasion. Mostly Ki43s.
So if we get the LF VIII, fighting Japanese fighters isn't out of the question historically. Both the RAF and RAAF flew the VIII against the Japanese.
