Good news...I'm getting a large refund.
Bad news... I'm getting a large refund.
-
I got my refund in the mail yesterday. Woohoo!!!!
Now I just have to figure out how to save enough of it for the Con this year.
By the way, when is the Con going to be? HTC? Anybody? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Oh come on Mietla, you should THANK them for holding that money for us, because we all know we are too stupid to invest it securely until it is time to pay. Thank you Big Brother!
PS I owed zero tax this year, and am getting EIC check! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm surprised that the IRS doesn't tax your tax return.
Woah, I better shut my mouth before I give them an idea!

Oh yes they do (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif). Your state refund is a subject of fed tax.
-
LOL I guess I wouldn't have known that since I've never had a refund (I owed every year since I started paying taxes).

I had the privilege of being charged a 10% penalty for withdrawing money from an IRA that I was required by law to withdraw. That was in addition to the other taxes I got to pay on that money.

Hmmm...last year I had capital gains I had to pay on stock sold in 1999 (Thks Microsoft, for the free $2700 dollar riding lawnmower!) and ended up paying in about $600 in federal taxes.
This year, I had 0 capital gains and I paid in $900 dollars!. Must-Get-Wife-To-Work-Less.

Must be nice to get a refund.
I’m married, have a descent family income, modest house, and no children. What does that all add up to, I owe a crap pot load for doing well and planning my life out. Not to mention I work in one state and live in another so I get even more taxes taken. Oh, did I also mention I live in one of the only cities in the country that has an income tax.
Needless to say this is one of the happiest times of the year for me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)
After some calculations I have made, I have become truly frightened about next year. I’m considering seeing a chiropractor for the damage that has been done from all the liberals standing on my back!

Yup, but isnt it funny how the Democrats do not want the "wealthy" to get their money back, despite the fact they pay 80% of the bills for the country. So, only the poor, who dont pay taxes, should get money. Yea right. And when Bush stuck to his guns, the Democrats said "No no no, we need to reduce PAYROLL taxes". We can't, the good ole Democrats have those nice and high, to keep Social Security open.
Isn't a dumb, vicious circle, and the only way the democrats can block the tax cut is through tax envy. How dare other people make more than you! We should tax them more since they have more! Yea yea! Pretty pathetic huh? Its obscenely stupid. Government has proven it wastes money terribly and yet the Dems want you to let them keep your money in Washington, since the "people" arent as responsible with it as you are.
I'm no genius but I work hard for my money, and Im quite certain I can make use of it better than they can.
Rant over...fer now (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

we should get rid of the tax withholding by the employer and instead force everybody to themselves write a check to the IRS on Apr 15.
-
Amen Mietla. Can you imagine the positive effect on the economy if people were able to hang on to that much of their income, instead of having it sit, interest free, in the government's hands? If people invested it wisely, they could really do well. Even if they just put it in a savings account, there is a hell of a lot gained if you add it all up.
And don't get me started on Social Security. If anybody but the government tried a scheme like Social Security, they would be arrested for fraud...

Funny you say that, I really stirred up the local liberal democrat in the office the other day when I told her to imagine the outcry if people had to *MANUALLY write a check each week* to the Feds, Social Security, FICA and such. But since its automatically taken out, and we never "have" that money to begin with, a lot of people never feel the loss.
And the states are getting stupid too. Tonight, I heard on the radio that the Maine Senate (or House) is sponsoring a bill to ban elephants at local circuses because "sometimes the animals arent treated right". Yea, nevermind that full time vet being there. Just another example of how some media coverage 'Special Report' on an extreme example makes the general public think this is the norm....in this example, apparently the sponsor saw a newsbit on animals being abused and took it upon himself to make sure no one in our state ever sees an elephant. Phhht...I'd say there's one politician who wont be getting re-elected. (Found the article...I kid you not... http://www.sunjournal.com/story.asp?slg=041101elephants) (http://www.sunjournal.com/story.asp?slg=041101elephants))
Its all so silly, its enough to make you wonder when people are going to say enough is enough, and wonder why they continue to put up with this kinda crap.

funked, if you really are getting EIC you really need to think about getting an education or at least a hamberger flippin job. You are selling yourself for peanuts and being suckered!! Your income has to be really low to qulify for EIC!! Just where do ya plug in your puter in your cardboard box under the bridge???
-
1776 I am getting an education, in fact I am a teaching assistant at a major university. That's why I'm getting the EIC, because I don't get paid squat, and just about all my money goes to educational expenses. My company was bought out in late 1999 and I was one of 900 employees "downsized", so I went back to finish my MS degree. I probably paid more in taxes for 1998 and 1999 than most people on this forum, and since I had a tiny income in 2000, I have zero guilt about collecting the (quite small) EIC.
-
I got $20 back.
Except they took that away from me because of some unpaid library fine.
But it's nice of them to give me notice that i was going to get $20 back, except they are gonna take it.
