Title: BB gun
Post by: nirvana on October 25, 2005, 10:11:25 PM
I'm lazy so does anyone know how old you have to be to buy BB gun ammo?  I think it's 18, my mom and step dad say 16, and i don't want to phone the stores.

pretty sure you have to 18.     Then again I could be wrong as my wife always reminds me of that.

Well I couldn't remember because I didn't pay attention to the register and my mom bought it but I thought there was some ID verification warning.  Thanks

And for the record...3-4 asian chicks in your room doesn't make you gay (referencing another thread about bamboo somewhere).  Thinking it does makes you questionable.

Nirvana I'm not sure but I remember buying it when I was under 18 at the local sporting goods department.  Both pellets and BBs if your airgun shoots both.  My dad bought me the rifle one christmas and I always bought my own ammo after I quickly exhausted my first supply.  I've actually got a box from "Daisy Quick Silver match grade BBs" on my desk right now as a pen-holder.  They were great because they came in plastic bags with 150bbs per pack for a grand total of about 5000 for the box.  Easy to carry and re-load a red-ryder type and also my later multi-pump rifles.

I'd exercise your new found drivers license and head to wally world or something similar and try your luck.  If it fails...have padre tag along and flash his ID for the punk behind the register.  But then again I don't get carded at bars yet had to show ID when I bought spray paint for a project a few weeks ago...go figure.

also:

When I turned 18 I could also buy all the pistol ammunition I could get my hands on...but couldn't buy a a pistol to use it with :)

Now the pistol resides under a jacket or around my ankle.

I prefer shooting pellets to BBs actually, don't know why just do.  I'll have someone take me to the store tomorrow and see if the ID thing pops up.  I searched for about an hour looking for Colorado BB gun ammo laws and such but couldn't find jack squat.  I don't really have anything to shoot, some cans and such, I just enjoy shooting, testing my accuracy.  Gives me something to do while I wait to get a confirmation call for a job.  Arm gets a real workout, just wish Daisy 880's came in single pump but oh well.

yep... xmass and opening that package with the bb gun... best xmas of my life for many years to come.

I shot thousands of bb's a week through that thing....  later, we had 22 rifles and the farmes let us shoot ground squirrles and jacks.   Gave us each a flat of strawberries one time for killing like 30 rodents.   Mom seemed pleased.

ride to places to shoot on unlicenced mini bikes or bikes with the guns across the bars... cops just drive on by...  all the kids had guns and no one shot anyone...  not on purpose anyhow.

I loved my old Daisy rifle. Also had 2 pellet pistols that looked like .357s. Shot alot of frogs. But one day I nailed a pidgeon while she was sitting in her nest under a bridge up in the girders. She fell out and landed in a pool of water below and drowned. I felt so bad I never used it again. All I could picture was three warm pidgeon eggs, getting cold on that autumn day, never to be born...because of me.

Those were different times Lazs and Golfer.

Nirvana, I believe most people wouldn't bother asking for ID if you look near 18.  However, everyonce in a while you'd get that ******* who'd ask for it and you'd be humped.

These times didn't go away that long ago...I had a normal childhood filled with guns, ammo, baseball, killing cute fuzzy critters and having them for dinner.  I'm 22 and even back in high school I could only shake my head at what the hell was happening to the kids in the classes below.

It's all gravy though...I had a 5 year old the other day out at my parents place who was with his father sighting in his rifle.  He had his BB gun (albeit his father was larry the cable guy if I ever saw em) and was pretty up to snuff on safety for his age.  I had my pistol on and he asked if I was going to shoot it.  Sure!  I put a mag through it from about 15 yards into our patented paper-plate targets and then offered him a go.  I'd load one round at a time and drop out the mag and finally on his last (15th) shot he hit paper.  We ripped it off the frame and he took it home to put on the fridge LOL!  Ahh...the good days aren't gone you just have to be considered a redneck to live them :huh

You're on to something there.  Now that guns are a 'novelty' everybody's itching to use them and that itch leads to a breakdown in common sense fueled by no education on the subject.  How the f&#% did that happen?

Maybe it's the area that had an affect too.  I grew up in a booming suburbia.

got my first BB gun at 9 or 10.

I used to take plastic sheeting, and add it to the inside of my 1/35 scale plastic tank models then see how many pumps it would take to penatrate the armor.

You can shoot spit balls out of some BB guns. (singleshot ones)

was great fun for me an my buddies, and no one ever called the cops.

I got the cops called on me for a compound bow once, but thats cause my sisters idiot BF shot the neighbors house with it.

I also got my first .22 at 12 I think. But had shot guns before that.

There are a lot od bastards around here who will check your ID for pretty much anything.  Spray paint, you have to be of age to buy now.  Apparently only people under 18 sniff paint.

I believe a simple phone call to the store sporting goods area will answer the question definitively about age to purchase bb's. If they say you are old enough then go get them.

so things have changed..... ok... what "things"?   people?  did we genetically mutate in a couple of decades?

The NRA gave firearms safety classes in the schools.... now they are banned from schools and the kids get "safe sex" lectures...

Now we got school shootings and aides.....  Maybe something is wrong with the legal process or the schools instead of some evolutionary change?

I was shooting guns with my dad when I was 7 but didn't get my BB gun 'til this August when I finally took an interest in getting a gun that could fire a relatively volatile chunk of metal.  I have a paintball gun and an air soft gun, love my BB gun though.

Oh and I called the folks at wal mart the legal age is 18 so i'll have my sister or someone pick some up for me.

You like pellets more because they are more accurate.  BBs roll down the barrel and are can be spinning sideways like mad by the time they exit.  Basically they are inconsistent curveballs.  Up close it hardly matters, but with any distance they can be way off.

Growing up I had a 40 foot indoor pellet gun range.  I would often shoot for an hour or so every day after school.  BB guns are cool.

I noticed that too Eskimo, so when I shoot long I use them.  The barrel isn't rifled, I don't think anyway.  The BBs are like using old musket's, they just bounce around like you said, but the pellets:)   I also like to see what happened to the pellet after it hit whatever I was shooting at.  Still have to get my scope sighted in, not that i'll use it must, it annoys me somewhat, the scope does.

You are 16 right?

Lose the BB gun, and get your Dad or someone to buy you a .22 or something along those lines.  More fun.

If you ever get the chance and I have it out, you can shoot my .50cal if you contribute to the ammo fund... averages 3 bucks a round!

My closet is filled with hunting pellets, target pellets, BBs, CO2 cartridges, .22 ammo, .38 target ammo, and .38 self-defense ammo. I also have the weapons in another closet and the targets in yet another.

Stockpiling for something, though I'm not sure exactly what.

Bodhi-

Was looking around and saw http://www.cheaperthandirt.com has .50 cal ammo for $1.50 a bullet.  Not sure how reliable they are and i don't think 100 rounds would last too long, but hey.
