Title: Looking for some help
Post by: Blammo on October 26, 2005, 11:40:18 PM
Well, for a while I was staying around a k/d or 2.0 or better.  I got my Track IR and thought I would be back in the swing by now, or at least doing the same, but my abilities overall seem to be slipping.  I was wondering if anyone of the accomplished fighter types would be willing to meet up in the DA some time.  If nothing else, you'll get a lot of practive shooting me down.

I know that I am making basic mistakes somewhere, but I just can't tell what I am doing wrong and need some input.  My goal is to not only get back to where I was previously, but to break through the previous plateau I was at.

Thanks.

I am not an accomplished fighter type.  But I do love dueling in the DA and am willing to spend as much of my game time in there as you want for a few nights until you get back into your groove.

However tomorrow (today rather, well, Thursday), I will be in there with the squad trying to get into some groove of my own with 38's.  I'm sure no one would mind if you wanted to join us, but I don't know if that's your plane.

If not, be happy to practice with you any other night.

I'm not sure if I could give you any input, but it's possible.

Not sure why the only guys that responded to your thread are in the same squad of the guy you insulted in another thread, but hey, we can all have off days.

First off, turn on the Track IR object relative mode (it may be called something different) otherwise gunnery is a real pain to get accomplished. I also have a Track IR as well, make SURE you get the Vector enhancement, well worth the money.

I'd be willing to help you out as well, I don't know a whole lot, but maybe I can help either in the TA or the DA.

As I said before, I'm 90% aim and 10% acm, but I'm willing to help.

Vudak and Delirium:
to both of you for the offer.  I will take you up on it.  However, tonight is supposed to be squad night, for Damage Inc. so I am probably won't be able to fly with y'all tonight.

I have tried the Object relative thingie, but if I remember that caused your rear view mode movement to be reversed...is that correct?  Anyway, if it is what I am thinking that was weird to me.  However, I will give it a shot later today.

I appreciate you getting beyond my off night to make the offer.  Thanks again.

Why not just go in the DA without an apointment?  There always people there.  Some new, some vets, and some . . . . oh well lets just that MegaDud is there sometimes.

Roger that...just wanted to make sure and catch someone not busy with other people is all.  Plus, someone that offers to help is usually more willing to help :D.  I know that sounds silly, but it makes sense to me.

Thanks again.

Blammo, do you think that track IR helped you fighter/skill wise?

Do you think that once you adjust 100% to track IR you will see major imporvements?

Edit:

Blammo the reason I asked about track IR and if it helped you is because its new to you and you may or may not have adjusted to flying with it.

I flew with a twist stick from MS for years until I finnaly took the plunge and went to CH HOTAS. For about a month I was absolutely useless in a fight. (More so then I was before I went to a new stick setup.) Forget about K/D, forget about score, I had problems just taking off now. It was all very different. The only thing that helped me to adjust faster was flying in real life. I went to the DA with apar and a few others, ones I knew wouldnt laugh at me tooo much while I looked like a complete tard trying to learn a new stick setup. I didnt even bother with the MA for probably 2-3 weeks.

Your fighter ability may not be as bad as you think. Rather you might be still thinking about where to look, how to look, how to use that trackIR rather than just doing it like it was second nature.

This might all be assumption on my part but I dont know you, only you know you and where you are as far as this stuff goes.

Blammo, I don't use trackIR but I do know that one good way to get "better" in fighters is to fight the best and try new things.  Fly re-active to the opponent keeping eye on him at all times if possible.   Getting the good sticks to duel you will help, especially if you get one that does'nt mind sharing technique with you!  Good luck!

Well, I will say this about it:  my SA has greatly improved and I am able to maneuver in a fight a lot better.  It is so much easier to track bad guys and still know my flight situation.

I think a good bit of it may be my gunnery or lack of confidence in my firing solutions.  I also know I am making really back mistakes in my maneuvers.

I do think that the longer I use it and unprogram myself from the hatswitch, the better I will get.  Some one told me before I would have to get used to flying into the view (Balsy?)...now I know what they mean.  It does feel a lot better and like highspeed internet access, I'm not how I did it before.
